How to bake a Sweet Potato pie

“Being a southern Rapper we love our sweet potato pie. While many use many different ingredients to make their sweet potato pie this one stands out for its simplicity and goodness. This recipe was passed down to me from my Dad. Rev. Caldwell who would cook the absolutely best sweet potato pies. After watching him year after year as a young boy it was simple to remember every step he took in creating those magical pies. ENJOY while listening to my lastest album. 3 large sweet potatoes

1)+ cup butter (such as Country Crock® plant butter), melted

5 eggs, beaten

1 (12 fluid ounce) can sweeten evaporated milk (such as Trader Joes®)

1 cup white sugar, or to taste

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

3 pie shells, thawed

Place sweet potatoes into a large pot and cover with water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until tender, 40 to 50 minutes. Drain water, peel sweet potatoes, and mash in a bowl.

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).

Mix butter and eggs together in a bowl until smooth; stir into mashed sweet potatoes. Mix milk, sugar, flour, vanilla extract, nutmeg, baking powder, and lemon juice into sweet potato mixture; pour into the 3 pie shells.

Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Lower oven temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and continue to bake until a toothpick inserted in the center of a pie comes out clean, about 40 minutes more. Cool pies for 15 to 30 minutes before refrigerating to cool completely, 1 to 2 hours.

Sweet potatoes can also be placed on a wire rack inside a pressure cooker and cooked until tender.

hey welcome for two and then we’re gonnashow you how we do a sweet potato pietoday but listen how we do sweet potatopie the best sweet potato yuca piey’all ever seen hang on there’s gonna bea quick five-minute video withingredients directions and how we’d makeit happen let’s get started I got a baghumming you know what time it is allrightfirst thing you got to have youringredients I’m gonna make sure I havethe ingredients down below so make sureyou read the description down below theingredients you’re gonna pre-heat youroven we got eleven preheater right nowat 425 and then once we pop in the piesor the pie in is now making one rightnow once I pop in the pot you’re gonnabe able to turn that down to 350 degreesfor about 10 to 15 minutes this takesabout a total of three hours to do fromstart to finish I already got some stuffprepared so I’m gonna get into it catchmy eggs and make it happen let’s get itI skinned three large sweet potatoesrinse them off put them in a pot we gotthe pot boiling right now those are alldone I’m gonna take those off but I tookfive eggs open them up put them into myinto my KitchenAid mixer I also wenthere and took my vanilla aspirin whichis one teaspoon of vanilla extract wenthead-on and putting into my mixing bowlI’m gonna go ahead and mix those eggs upreal quick next thing I did about myright dry ingredients what’s about mydry ingredients which is one cup ofsugaryeah I have a half a teaspoon of bakingpowdernot soda baking pie half a teaspoon ofnutmeg and I use 1 tablespoon ofall-purpose flour all that is in heregot my dry ingredients mixed ready to gomake sure that’s all nice and goodthat’s our egg mix look at that egg mixin the kitchen a number that 12 ouncesof condensed milk we also likeat two bits of melted butter but we’reusing the country crop plant-basedbutter made with avocado oil 2 sticks ofthese gonna milk those yep got my twosticks of butter melted already ready togo in here so I’m go ahead and dump thisinto my egg and vanilla extract mixturetwo sticks of butter equals a half a cupof butter so and now we’re going to addour condensed milk I’m using organicsweetened milk from Trader Joe’s you canfind in a friend of Joe’s I’m gonna pull12 ounces of this into the mixture thisis a 14 ounce can so I’m gonna leave alittle bit the bottom about two ouncesbefore I that should be about two ouncesI’m gonna take off our sweet potatoesoff the stove I’m gonna drain them Ilike to drain my sweet potatoes becausebig the way I do mine is I peel them andI boil them in hot water for about 30for 30 to 45 minutes until I know thatthey’re nice and soft so what I do I’llput my knife inside I see my knifeinside of my potatoes those always donice and easy perfect ready to go so nowthat I have my potatoes getting ready tocome out I’m gonna go ahead and turn myoven to 350 I’m gonna put my strainer inmy sink right here behind you guys putthose details in there I’m gonna drainfor a second you today three largepotatoes okaywe’re letting our potatoes drain realquick I’m gonna get ready to put themright into this bowl one more thing thatwe need to put into our wet mixture isthe lemons we only need a half ateaspoon of the lemon juice so go aheadand squeeze we’re gonna squeeze some ofthat juice in here actually all thisjuice squeeze gonna tackle it up okaythrow that into my wet mixI need just a bowl real quick oh my mywit into another bowl round up ourpotato so it look like I thought drainit straight all right you got that inthere now I’m gonna go ahead and whip itup real quick it don’t take a lot finewhip it up about 15 seconds not a lot atall put it in thereturn it on let’s watch how this put theworks put it on like a threegood thing about using this right hereis it gets all the strings out I lovethat my of my potato makes hardly everhas much strings in it and now we’regoing to go ahead and add everythingeverything to get dirt do ityoulike do not be afraid if your mixture isa little soupy because that’s exactlyhow it’s supposed to look turn out onemoreyou can’t believe night we have our pieshell and our deep dish pot and we stillhave our mixture now these actuallythese will make a bow these will makeabout three pies so don’t please barelygo ahead and fill the pies up and thengo ahead throw this one in the oven letit bake and then show you how the finalresult of the yuca pies five minutesfive minutes after the hour desiresand it’s going in you won’t see what theHyuga plaque um I looking like when it’sall done[Music][Music][Music]
