CHALLAH RECIPE// Makes 2 loaves
INGREDIENTS
8 cups of all-purpose flour
2 eggs + 1 egg for egg wash
3/4 cup sugar
1 tbsp. salt
2 tbsp. active dry yeast
1/2 cup canola or vegetable oil
1 3/4- 2 cups water
Sesame seeds

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Mix dry ingredients
2. Add 2 eggs and oil
3. Use Mixer (with dough hook) on lowest speed for 2 mins while gradually adding water until well blended (don’t always need all the amount)
4. After 2 mins, raise speed to 2, for 10 mins
5. Make a round ball and cover with a bit of oil
6. Put in a bowl and cover with saran wrap and wet towel, put in warm spot, let rise for about an hour and a half. Dough should be double its original size
7. Punch the dough down a bit and divide dough into 2 (1 for each challah) and braid
9. Place the challahs in a pan on top of lightly greased or lightly floured parchment paper, and make sure to leave space around them, because they will spread and grow while baking
10. Put the pan in a warm place and let the challah rise a second time, for about 40 minutes
11. Mix 1 egg with 1 tbsp. of water and brush over the loaves. Sprinkle sesame seeds
12. Bake for about 35 minutes at 350° F. depending on the oven (watch it after 20 mins) until it gets golden brown. Check if ready by poking it with toothpick. Let cool and Bon Appétit!

* Open oven slowly and avoid opening it frequently while Challah is baking
* You can also make challah without a mixer- Use large bowl and wooden spoon (mix dry ingredients with 2 eggs and oil till well blended, kneed for 10 mins)
* Separating of the challah mitzvah- http://bit.ly/2m4Ikbk

hi everyone welcome back to my channel
my name is Gao and today I’m going to be
making challah bread it’s super easy to
make and it tastes so good
[Music]
Paula is a traditional Jewish bread
eaten on Shabbat and on Jewish holidays
this recipe makes two loaves and you
will need 8 cups of flour 3 eggs 3/4 cup
of sugar 1 tablespoon of salt 2
tablespoons of active dry yeast 1/2 a
cup of canola oil sesame seeds and
between 1 and 3/4 to 2 cups of water I
already put the flour in the mixer and I
mix in all the dry ingredients together
with flour and I mix them together with
a spoon
and then I add two eggs I leave one of
them for the egg wash and after that I
add oil then I mix everything on the
lowest fee for about two minutes while
adding the water until everything is
well blended you don’t always need all
of the water start with 1 and 3/4 cups
of water and if you see some flour at
the bottom of the bowl you can always
add a bit more water after 2 minutes I
raise the speed from stir to number 2
which is slow mixing and mix for about
10 minutes I’m using the dough hook
attachment to mix it all together but
you could also prepare this by hand you
just need a big bowl and a wooden spoon
and mix it well until it’s blended and
then you just knead it for about 10
minutes on a floured surface after 10
minutes I take the dough out of the
mixer and place it on a clean and
floured surface and I just fold it a
couple times and make a ball
[Music]
[Music]
after that I put it in a hole and I
covered the dough around with a bit of
oil after that I cover the bowl with
saran wrap and a damp towel and let it
rise in a warm spot for about an hour
and a half after the dough’s rise in I
floured surface again and fold the dough
a couple of times to take out all the
air out of the dough and this is also
the time if you do the blessing of the
separation of the challah and this is
when you do it but I don’t do this part
and I don’t even think them out of dough
in this recipe is enough to do the
separation of the challah but I don’t
know I don’t do that
then I divide the dough in half as
evenly as possible since we are making
two loaves then I separate each piece
into three even parts and I shape each
piece into a rectangle shape and fold it
and start rolling from the inside
outwards to the edges
[Music]
and then I try to make all three pieces
the same leg and then I just braid them
together so now you pinch the end and
you start braiding I roll them a little
bit sloppy but it’s going to come out
good I like to make two lobes if I’m
already doing this because I could make
one for myself and also I could just
give one to a friend or I could just
make one for the same evening and then I
just slice the other loaf and two pieces
and then I freeze it and then every
morning I could just toast it and eat it
for breakfast
[Music]
and then you pinch the other side and
tuck both pinched sides underneath the
dough and then you do the same thing to
the other piece of dough and then you
place the hollows on a lightly greased
or lightly floured parchment paper and
make sure to leave a lot of space
between them because they will grow
while baking put the pans in a warm
place and let it rise a second time for
about 40 minutes at this time I preheat
the oven to 350 degrees about 15 minutes
before baking and meanwhile I start
preparing the egg wash I take one egg
and a bit of water and I mix it together
using the brush then I brush it over the
loaves and sprinkle sesame seeds on top
[Music]
and then I bake them for about 35
minutes on 350 degrees it depends on the
oven and I just start watching them
after about 20 minutes till it gets
golden brown and this is it this is how
I came out yeah so thank you so much for
watching I hope you enjoyed it and don’t
forget to subscribe and give a thumbs up
if you liked the video and I’ll see you
in the next video
[Music]
