How to Make Chinese Sweet Bean Bread 豆包

My most favorite Chinese Staple! Super popular in the northern region of china, the sweet bean buns are nice hearty warm treat. If the dough is made right they’re soft & fluffy, with sweat filling. I’m providing a link below which is my video on the Sweet Bean Pancakes, I show how to make the beans in the video. If you have a pressure cooker you can cook them much faster!! Unfotunately, I don’t LOL

Please let me know if you have any questions. I used All purpose flour, you can also use cake flour which comes out quite nice. You’ll be able to tell the dough has risen enough, it should AT LEAST double in size with little air pockets 🙂

guess what we’re gonna make some sweetbuns today aka tomorrow let’s get ouryeast so we gonna do the dough and we’regonna have about 4 cups of flour and addabout 1 spoon of sugar just go ahead andmix that in with the flour okay let’sgrab a bowl and go ahead and prepare ourwarm to hot water for day least I was alittle too hot so I’m gonna add somecold water that seems perfect go aheadand add your package of yeast you goahead and mix that up and we’re gonnalet it sit here for a few minutes aftera few minutes go ahead and mix in ouryeast water as we’re stirring it and ifyou do need a little bit more waterthat’s okay just make sure that it’swarm waterokay the consistency for kneading thedough should be still slightly soft youdon’t want to put too much flour in tomake it dry the yeast does not like thatI’m telling us we’re just gonna keepeating the dough inside the bowl[Music]once the outside looks up pretty smoothI’m going to switch it into a differentBowl so that we can prep it for restinggrab a piece of plastic wrap and put itover the bowl so we can make sure wekeep the heat inside obviously you guyscan tell it’s pretty cold outside and Idon’t use my heater much so that’s kindof effect for our dual raises my littletrick sometimes I’ll preheat the ovenbut just so it’s warm enough inside sothe temperature changes I always makesure that it’s not too hot and then justslide it inside for a few hourshoora our dough is and it is ready to bemade againyou know I’ve put our wineNohello everyoneand don’t be nice to it okay that’s forsure don’t be don’t be nice to yourflower and just kind of give it a littleSwedish massage we don’t want a Swedishmassage we want some tissue and see whattake nice and smooth on one side putthis back on my working board we’regonna cover it for about 15 minutes andthen we’ll come back and we can startseparating it for our buns okay now thatour dough is rested we’re gonna pick itup and make a hole in the middle andthen I’m just gonna grab it Hollow putsome flour on my hands makes a littlebit easier and just kind of pull untilthey’re about the same length all aroundquick Yaffe’sand we’re gonna break them off intopiecesa little bit smaller just grab it andthey don’t have to be perfect just youknow an approximate size this onethis is the beam sorry am i putting inthese are actually some that I alreadyprepared I’m making a different videofor a different social media app so thisshould be about this bigonce it have to filling it and we’llclose them up nice and tight so theydon’t leak we’re gonna grab a piece makesure has some flour on it yes are yougonna use our fingers to just keepfolding it towards the middle you cansee I’m just taking it and pulled itmakes you have enough flour on your handand the reason why we’re gonna do thisis to make sure outside is nice andsmooth just looks nicer and then takeyour rolling pin I’m gonna roll it flata little bit and then you want the edgesto be much much much thinner so let’sroll that out on the edge leave theinside thicker like this muchit’s gonna be much thinner than theinside so that way when we put thefilling in it’s gonna be easier to fillit up no week we put our beans in themiddle you’re just gonna use our fingersto wrap all the way around if you feellike you’re getting tight just pull itand make them go down use another fingerto just hold it once you get towards themiddleswishy cluesmake sure there’s a nice round sheetthere you gookay in the next step we’re going toprepare our steam pot make sure you areusing cold water okay if you have thispiece of cloth you can use the clothjust make sure it’s wet and then giveeach bun their space to grow if youdon’t have the cloth you can use alittle bit of oil just take your buttonput a little bit of oil on the bottom sothey don’t get stuck to this Emerturn the fire on high heat so once thewater is boiling hot you want to turnthe fire to medium to medium-lowdepending on the strength of yourcooktop I just want to make sure yougive it a lot of time so it’s nicehey so after you’ve been cooking forabout 20 to 25 minutes turn off the fireand then just let them sit here for afew minutes I’m gonna open the pot justslightly you don’t want the temperatureto change too quick or then they startlooking completed bean bread so you canyou can see I already am open with it sosee we got a good amount of filling andthe bread is nice and poufy usually oneof my most favorite favorite staple Ithink Chinese food so any questions makesure to leave them below and I hope youguys have a good time making thesethey’re super fun it’s ready last time
