Bob’s Bakery – Episode One : Apple Pie

Follow along as we prepare a piping hot, home-made apple pie. I’m Bob the Baker. I’ve loved baking as long as I can remember, and it seemed like an obvious choice to share that passion with other people. I want to make the world a little sweeter by sharing recipes and how-to videos for all my favorite baked treats. I really hope you will all try following along with these recipes! Tell me how your creations turned out in the comments below.

Recipe:

Crust –

2 and 1/2 Cups All Purpose Flour
1 Teaspoon Granulated Salt
1 Cup Butter/Margarine/Lard/Vegetable Shortening
1/2 Cup Ice Water

Filling –

2 – 3 Large Apples
1/2 Cup Granulated White Sugar
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
1 Teaspoon Ground Ginger
1 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
1 Teaspoon Ground Nutmeg

Crust:
Step One –
Add flour and salt to a large mixing bowl

Step Two –
Add cubed fat into flour and salt mixture

Step Three –
Use a pastry cutter or a strong fork to cut the fat into the flour and salt mixture. Look for a course mealy texture.

Step Four –
Slowly drizzle in the ice water while stirring the dough. Look for the dough to begin to form large sticky balls.

Step Five –
Turn out the dough onto a floured surface and form it into a large ball. Cut the ball into two halves. Using your hands, form the two halves into small discs. Refrigerate these disks for at least two hours.

Filling:
Step One-
Peel and core your apples. Slice them into 1/4 inch slices.

Step Two-
Sprinkle the sugar over the apples and stir.

Step Three-
Sprinkle the seasonings over the apples and stir.

Step Four-
Spread the apples over the bottom crust of the pie.

Finishing:
Step One-
Add the top crust to the pie. If you’re doing a lattice crust, this is the time to lay out your strips of dough.

Step Two-
Bake at 400 Degrees for 40-45 Minutes. Cover the edges of your crust with tin foil to keep them from burning. After the pie has baked for about 20 minutes, remove the tin foil and finish baking.
