hey everyone its mr. wat hopingeverybody is faring well hoping you’restaying safe hoping you’re stayinghealthy my wife and I are both finewe’re at home we’re not showing anysymptoms we’re feeling fine basicallystaying home running quick missions tothe grocery store and walking the dogright now my dog is resting I’llintroduce you to Z say hi Rosie RosieRosie she’s been difficult that’s okayum yeah notice I got a new little thinggoing in my face I know it looks kind ofweirdit probably won’t stay there for a whilebecause I’m testing to see how long Ican do it as long as the crisis existsI’ll keep doing it otherwise we’ll gofrom theretoday what I thought I would do is aquick and easy lesson in baking for manyof you I know some of you guys havementioned I like being the kitchen Ilike cooking cooking is fun for me andwe’re gonna be in my kitchen and part ofwhat we’re gonna look at today is we’reactually going to take a look at how tobake cookies some of you are bakers andyou probably have done this before soit’s not that big a dealothers are probably not so today thinkof it as a fun thing to do I will sharethe recipe with you on my Googleclassroom once I post this video andwill do it so away we go and that it’s apretty bleak day so today I thought wedo is we would actually bake somecookies now we’re going to come into mykitchen we’re gonna take a look at acouple different things so on the tableI had a lot of the basic ingredientsthat you’re going to need for bakingcookies a couple words of caution numberone is that unfortunately you find thatyou may not have all these differentsupplies so because supplies arebecoming limited a lot of stores thatare asking you to buy one of each thingyou may not have these supplies but I’ma table I have the basic supplies ofthings that wereto need as I mentioned a for somesupplies may be limited in availabilitybased on what store you go to but if youhave some of these basic items aroundyour house you can actually make a batchof cookies today I’m gonna make a batchof chocolate chip cookies I’m making ahalf a batch because a it’s just my wifeand me and – I can make a half because Iwant to show you that math actually doeswork in your everyday life so today I’mgoing to do is I need some basicingredients notice I have two bowlssitting here in this first bowl I havecombined flour baking soda and salt whatI put in here is one in 1 eighths of acup of all-purpose flour I put in half ateaspoon of baking soda and I also puthalf a teaspoon of saltnow why baking soda as opposed to bakingpowder I did get both these guys outjust to kind of show you the differencebaking soda and baking powder are sodiumbicarbonate that basically means that ithelps our dough and everything risechemically so that when you’re baking itit actually changes it from a joke doughto something you can eatso baking powder if you have that and donot have baking soda what I looked uponline they say you can take three timesthe amount of the required amount thatyou would need for baking soda in orderto bake goods that you wanted thedifference between the two is thatusually when you use one there’s anacidic agent of some sort that you addto your recipe that would helpeverything become fluffy and moist andrise I can’t remember which one it was Ibelieve baking powder is the one thatyou would add like a lemon juice too butyou can use baking pop baking soda asthe same kind of principle so in thefirst bowl of combined all three ofthese ingredients in the next bowl overhere already pre-mixed a coupledifferent odors so the actual recipecalls for 3/4 of a cup of granulatedwhite sugar it also calls for 3/4 of acup oflike brown sugar so what I did is I tookhalf of each of those sugars and mixedthem into a second Bowl which I’ll bemixing up here very shortly I’ve alsogot one stick of butter I’ve got one eggif you’re having a hard time findingbutter or eggs a margarine would be agood substitute as long as you get closeto one of these as I turn this thingover you look at any stick of butterwe’ll give you the measurements that youneed so if you’re trying to figure outmeasurements of different things in thisparticular one shows you that there areeight tablespoons in one stick of butterit also shows you you take a look on theside that there are four tablespoons per1/4 cup so if you know how much of a cupyou’re measuring or even in differentthings you can find differentmeasurements to help you bake this thingproperly eggs you can use a substitutein case some of your family cannot eatreal eggs and butter you can usemargarine it should have the samemeasurements on it last but not leastyou want to mix your chocolate chipcookies with something else that youneed so in this case I’m using TollHouse because we have these leftover Iwant to get rid of them and I wouldn’tmind replacing them with something newactually there is another bag in therebut I’m just using this you can useanything really to mix your tool-housechocolate chip cookies you can use darkchocolate chips you can use the minimorsels you can even use M&Ms if youreally wanted to doesn’t matter what youuse as long as you’re able to do it andmix them off together one of the thingsI should have mentioned is theimportance of washing your hands betweenevery process when you bake cook touchany kind of food you want to make surethat you wash your hands and make surethat everything is cleanthat’s how germs spread one thing I’mactually doing right now is I’m heatingup the oven this is my oven case you’recurious you can see it’s on and whatwe’re doing is we’re warming it up to375 degreesnowif you want to make sure that yourbutter is actually softened when I saysoftened what that means basically isyou want to have it sit at roomtemperature for maybe about an hour orso[Music]and you’re solving itsomething else I met neglected tomention is getting some imitationvanilla what vanilla does it gives alittle extra edge and flavor and alsogives the baking some kind of thing thatyou can adjust the ingredient that youadd to everything so it is added abouthalf a teaspoon of this she my turnmixture right now as I’ve added thisalready looks like[Music]big storyit’s mixed up together[Music]sorrylast but not least you come over hereand grab a chocolate chips the importantthingokay so now my oven is actually at 375so we’re all set inside of here mix ismade notice I’m using a tablespoon sowhat you do is you take a tablespoon ofeach of these cookies and you put themonto a cookie sheet so you should havesome set of a baking sheet of some sortyou don’t need to fill more than halfthe tablespoon with it and then you canjust put it into a little circle so thebowls like that and you put them on thebaking dish just like that is this theurge to eat the raw cookie dough I’mjust as guilty as everybody else and yesI’ve had some however do as I say not asI do raw cookie dough contains egg thatcould actually make you sickso I’m advising you not to do thatdoesn’t mean you’re not going to I can’tcontrol you in that part so what we’regonna do try take this oven take thiscookie sheet put in the oven for about10 minutes let it bake at 375 and thenwhen the timer goes off we’ll pull themout you can kind of see in the light Iput a little light on inside so we cankind of see how it looks a lot of fun Itook the liberty of setting up a wirerack a wire rack basically gives yourcookies a chance to cool from not onlyup above but from underneath you noticeit’s a little bit elevated off theground I used a paper towel to catch anycrumbs that may or may not develop whenI put these things on here as I pull thefirst batch out in about 8 minutes fromnow I’ll set them on the wire rack andthen what I’ll do is I’ll put the secondand final batch of cookies into the ovenwhile these cool right here the oldcookies YUM now couple other safetyprecautions like I mentioned one makesure that you have a picture you have apot holder don’t do what I do in classsometimes a pot holder is superimportant especially for you be grabbing375 degreecookie pan number one number two look athow each of the cookies appear they havethat Brown edge around them whichbasically means that they are prettywell cookedor baked I’m gonna put this on my rackand then I’m gonna start the secondbatch all the cookies have been pulledfrom the oven and they put them on thewire rack minus one because I just ateit okay well that’s about it guysI will post the full recipe of how to dothis what’s important is to rememberfollow all your safety protocols at homejust like you do in the science lab makesure you wear a protective gear to helpyou as you’re working around differentpieces of equipment that’s inside yourkitchen and remember enjoy the foodwhile you’re doing
