The first step in great sugar cookies is having the right ingredients and tools. In this video, I outline what we are going to need to be prepared for the next steps, making the cookie dough, rolling out the cookies, baking, and of course decorating!

[Music]hi everyone I’m Stephanie from that sideCookie coach and I’m your new cookiecoach I am going to be here to walk youthrough step by step to make the bestcookies you ever made we’re gonna startby getting your ingredients and yoursupplies ready now I’m going to take youthrough the process of making the doughcutting the dough out baking it and thenof course decoratingso first up here are some of the thingsthat you’re going to want to make sureto add to your grocery list if they’renot already in your pantry for thecookie dough you’re going to need flourproximately you’re going to want to haveabout six cups on hand you’re going towant to have salt that’s just a littlebit maybe you’re going to want to makesure you have about two two teaspoonsthe baking powder again about twoteaspoons you’re going to want to makesure is that least there in your pantryyou’re gonna need some granulated sugarprobably about two cups also for thedough you’re going to want to have foursticks of unsalted butter if you’ll onlyhave salted butter at home that’s fineyou’ll just pass on the actual salt andthen you’re gonna want to eggs and thensome vanilla extract and some almondextract notice I have a couple differentvarieties here that’s just to show youthat it’s okay you can use whateverbrand you already have it can beimitation it can be pure whatever youhave on hand they’re going to bedelicious for your icing you’re going towant to have plenty of powdered sugaryou’re going to want a little bit ofmilk or water and then for my icinginstead of a royal icing I use what’scalled a glazed icing gluefacing is just a little bit differentthe difference is for a royal icing weuse either egg white or meringue powderand that helps it to set up and hardeninstead for my clinks icingI like to use a light corn syrup they’restill gonna dry stackable they’re goingto dry so that you can touch themthey’re not going to be wet or you knowdip it or ruin but when you bite intothem nice and soft and delicious thenyou’re also going to want plenty of foodcoloring I have a couple differentchoices here to show you that whateveryou have on hand is going to work I havea food coloring paste your generalgrocery store food coloring liquid or afood coloring gel all of those workgreat you might also notice I have awhite food coloring paste here if youcan get your hands on it if it’savailable that’s great if not it’s not abig deal I like to use it in all of myicing it helps to give it more of abright white color it also brightens anyof the colors you add to it but it’s notnecessary some of the tools you’re goingto make sure you want of course somesort of a mixer for the dough I alsolike a spatula to wipe down the sides toscrape down the sides if all you have isa hand mixer that will work too but Ilike to use my stand mixer of coursemeasuring cups of course a baking sheetI like to use parchment paper on mybaking sheet but if you don’t have itit’s not a big deal you’re going to wantsome sort of cookie cutters for theseextra special Easter cookies that I’mgetting ready to make I’m gonna use itEaster egg shake if you don’t have thatgo ahead and use a circle you can eitherstretch it out or you can use a knife tokind of shape it however you want it ofcourse I’m sort of a spatula to movethose cookies when we’re still in thedough stage I want to use a siliconMatt when I’m rolling out my cookiesthat way I don’t have to add a lot offlour but if you don’t have one of thosea nice clean counter will do the trickand a rolling pin and then for after thebaking process I like to use coolingracks if for some reason you don’t havethose no big deal they can just pullright on the pan not a problem the lastthing I have out are some bulls you’regoing to want plenty of bowls and plentyof spoons when it comes time for thedecorating you’ll see that we want toseveral options for the icing and icingcolors and then I also have out someplastic wrap that’s perfect for when youare going to be chilling your doughafter I mix my dough for this recipe Ido like to wrap it up in the plasticwrap put it in the fridge for a coupleof hours and get it nice and set upbefore I roll it out so get ready getyour grocery list ready get all yoursupplies out and get ready to bake withme oh and don’t forget please subscribeto this channel that’s how I cookiecoach you’re not going to want to missout on the next steps and othertutorials thanks
