Chewy Molasses Cookies

Molasses Cookies:
Ingredients:
2 1/2 C. Flour
2 tsp Baking Soda
1 tsp Cinnamon
1 tsp Ground Ginger
1/2 tsp Ground Cloves
1/4 tsp Ground Nutmeg
1/4 tsp Salt
1/2 C. Shortening
1/2 C. + 3 Tbsp White Granulated Sugar
2/3 C. Unsulfered Molasses
1/4 C. Water
1 Egg

Directions:
Whisk all dry ingredients in a medium bowl.
In a large bowl beat the shortening and 1/2 cup sugar till smooth.
Add molasses, water, and egg, mix till well combined.
Stir in the flour (about half at a time) mix till well blended.
Cover with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for a couple hours.
Roll into a ball (about one heaping tablespoon)
Roll in sugar
Place on an ungreased cookie sheet (or lined with silicone liner) 2 inches apart
Bake 8-10 minutes
Cool on cookie sheet for a few minutes then on a cooling rack till completely cooled.

[Music]Hey welcome back to the cop kitchen I’mDave Chevy so today I’m gonna makeanother batch of cookies it’s gonna be acookie that I remember growing up as akid my dad really liked him so uh my mommade him a lot and that is molassescookies now I would have no idea how shemade those I remember eating them but Iwould never remember the recipes butthanks to my sister Doreen who puttogether a cookbook a family cookbook ofmost of the recipes that we grew upeating jitterbug sandwich apple piechicken pot pie a bunch of differentrecipes and I’m gonna get to most ofthem before the time is over and thisone again one of my favorites it’s got alot of spices in it and let’s see how wedo here we go there we go again I wantto thank my sister too arena puttingthat cookbook together one of the otherrecipes in there hungie guns you can hitup the watch up one of my upcomingvideos too you can find out what that isbut for this recipe molasses cookiesyou’re gonna need two and a half cups offlour two teaspoons baking soda 1teaspoon of cinnamon 1 teaspoon ofground ginger 1/2 teaspoon of groundcloves 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg Ilove this fella not me and 1/4 teaspoonof salt also the wet ingredients willinclude 1/2 a cup of shortening 1/2 cupof sugar granulated sugar plus 3tablespoons and when we get to that that3 tablespoons will be used to rule thecookie dough in before we put them inthe oven the 2/3 cups of unsaltedmolasses okay I don’t knowwhat sulfur molasses is so unsalted I’musing this Crosby it’s called it’s fancymolasses 100 percent pure and it saysright under itunhhhh sulfur okay there you go alongwith that you’re gonna need 1/4 cup ofwater and 1 egg let’s get started okayI’ve got my two and a half cups of flourand a medium-sized bowlI did not sift the flour I don’t thinkyou need to in this and we’re gonna addthe baking soda and I’ve got all thespices in here I’ve got the cinnamon theground ginger the ground cloves thenutmeg and the salt all right here we’llmix that all in oh that smells goodhmm nutmeg comes ooh big time let’swhisk this up you know it is riskybusiness set that aside wet ingredientsso the wet ingredients in large bowlwe’re gonna put our shortening thenwe’re gonna do we’ll put the sugar mixI’m gonna use a hand mixer you can useyou can do it all by hand or use a standmixer if you want let’s put all thatsugar and mix it all upwe’ll add our molasses[Music]you’ve met a Little Mixin goes the water cake and somethingthat’s not in the recipe that I like toadd is a teaspoon of vanilla and givethat a mix until well combinedokay now we’re gonna add our flour alittle at a time and then stir it in Iadd about half of it I’m getting startedso we’ll be putting this in therefrigerator once we get it all mixedfor about two hours then we’ll take itout will form the dough into about twoinch maybe a tablespoon balls roll themin the sugar and then we’ll cook them ina preheated oven that set it 350 degrees[Music]when you put it in the refrigeratorgo ahead and put some wrap over itplastic wrap and cover it[Music]all righty I’m gonna cover this and putit the refrigerator for a couple hoursI’ll be back so that two hours went bypretty quick didn’t it at least for youguys all right so the matter is underthe refrigerator it’s firmed up a littlebitI’ve taken a cookie sheet I have linedit with my as you know when I do mycookies like these ones I like thissilicone liner or the cookie if not youcan just put the cookies on a ungreasedcookie sheet so we’re just gonna scoopout yeah this is my one tablespoon scoopalso I’ve got a two tablespoon scoop Imade make it for a bigger cookie but I’mgonna roll them into a ball roll theminto sugar put them on the pan up twoinches apart beauty of this one thatmatches it for you all right I’ll speedthis up a little bit so you’ll have towait so long[Music]all right two pans ready to go in theoven 350 degrees 810 minutes first batchout of the oven we’re gonna let them siton the baking pan the cookie sheet for afew minutes and then we’ll transfer themover to the infamous cooling rackthey’re cool enough now we’re going tomove them over to the cooling rack andlet them cool completely[Music]so they are stacks and stacks ofmolasses cookies you know it smells likesmells like the shippi household mom wasmaking these this is another good one tomake with the kiddos while you’re coopedup in the house and quarantinednice and easy recipe to make keep themkids from driving you crazy give it atry till next time please subscribe hitthe like button hit the bell leave acommentmaybe you have a variation of the recipelet me know again I want to thank mysister Doreen for making the familycookbook that I used because I had neverremember this recipe and until next timebe safe out there wash your hands a lotI’m tensor[Music]you[Music]
