Hi, my name is Doretha and I’m Kari and
today we’re going to do a virtualcooking show and we’re making no bake
chocolate oatmeal drops. So to begin withI’m going to turn the stove onand I’m going to start adding my
ingredients. We need 2 cups of sugar.Measure it carefully do a little bit
better than I’m doing.flatten it out through to make it make
sure we’ve got a full cupall right
and then we’re gonna do two tablespoonsof cocoaand a stick of margarinenow we’re gonna let this heat up let’s
see yes and add the the milk thank youand straight half a cup of milk,
half a cup of milk to the mixtureall right and we’re gonna cook this
until it comes to a boil just dissolvethe sugar and the cocoa and themargarine together usually helps if you
take and cut your margarine into smallerpieces so it melts more quickly then
putting the whole stick in there andfeel the heat nowThis is our first time with the induction
cooktop, a little bit different then anormal stoveheats quickerand the recipe today was one
of Kari’s grandmother’s. My grandmotherworked for a school in Pennsylvania and
this was one of the recipes that shegave me
but both Doretha and I remember havingthis cookie in high school so yes you
know we look like sisters rightso recipe has been around for a long
time it’s always one of my favoritesShh don’t tell them that. We’re young we’re
very young. X that X that. I didn’tsay anything. Starting to get smooth yeah Mrs.
Doretha almost has it all stirred inthere, and the pot is warm I mean the cooktop is cool compared to the pot.Once she has it all stirred in
then we need to bring it to a boil andit has to boil for one minute so let me
give you a peek in here and what itlooks like. And the induction cooktop will beep when you
take the pot off the burner.and we can go up to that full temperature
I’m not sure, we’ll try itit’s really getting smooth then all the
lumps are coming out the margarine ismeltingsmells good
I’m starting to see some bubbles okay soI’m going to start our timer and it’s
bubblingyou keep stirring Kari? I stir it a
little bit so it doesn’t stick but notnecessarily the whole time.
Okay so we’ll just give it a little stirinto every so often just to keep it from
sticking on the bottomgetting a good rolling bubble nowokay it’s been a minute now the one
thing you have to be careful aboutwhenever you’re cooking this is to make
sure it doesn’t get a burnt smellbecause then your cookies will taste
burnt so just you don’t want to start itand walk away from it. First thing we’re
going to add here is our half a cup ofpeanut butter 1/2 a cup of peanut butter
so it has time to melt make sure you’renot standing too close then have it plop and have it fall on us yeahthat would be pretty warm, all right I’m
gonna stir that in to the mixture hereit’s starting to blend you see.Now do you think yeah that is fine
enough you can really smell the peanutbutter now sorry guys that you’re at
home and you can’t smell it and I canreally smell the peanut butter I’m going
to serve it and then I’ll measure ateaspoon of vanilla to the rightteaspoon vanillarightso the mixtures coming together and you
keep stirring then until it cools alittle bit you’re gonna want it to cool
a little bit otherwise when you scoop itout and put it on your I use wax paper
it’s going to spread a little bit so getit cool first then it will stay a nice
little balls, in drops. That cooktop iscool it’s barely warm, it’s nice. It’s a little bit too
runny yet, we’ll show you what it lookslike here in a sec. That smells goodokay let’s give our viewers of look
inside our pan so see it’s a little bitrunny yet you might think it’s pretty
thick but when you put on that on thewax paper it will spread so you want to
let it set up a little bit more that wayit ends up being more like a cookie ball
instead of a patty, a cow patty cow pattyYou tell me when it’s there. Well usually
what I do, I get my handy dandyice cream scoop and I just pull out a
little bit and put it on and see how itdoes if it keeps its shapea little bit more – and then see if it’s
keeping its whole shape with a largeramount on it and if it’s keeping pretty
decent shape then I’ll start to scoop. It seems to be keeping a pretty decent shape
so just scoop them I use an ice creamscoop you can use two spoons or whatever
you choose to use and you don’t need toput them real far apart like you
sometimes have to put cookies now twoinches apart you can put them pretty
close because they’re not going tospread out on you.and you’re gonna let them cool for a
little bit probably 30 minutes to anhour to cool and then they’re ready to
eat quick and easy just a fewingredients that’s what I likeyou could probably add nuts or coconut
to it if you wanted. I would thinkcertainly you couldones they’re gonna make us a few more
which is good because you knew the staffat the library likes to eat cookies they
do and everything else and then whenthese cool we’ll be back to show you
what they look like let me take them offbut in the meantime you might want to
check out our other videos don’t we haveother videos not ours but the library
has many videos for you to check outonline we do so stay tuned for other
videos from Suwannee River Regional Librarythank you
