The BEST EVER Farm Recipe Blackberry Pie from Scratch

Everyone needs a perfect pie recipe, and I have just the one for you! This recipe originally came from a farm bakery where I grew up, and it was smuggled to me to put to good use. I have made this blackberry pie many times, and I can’t believe how simple it is. In this episode I’ll show you how to make this perfect pie, complete with the CUTEST pie crust decorated with bows (seriously, it’s adorable).

Notes:
Blackberry Pie Recipe:

Ingredients:
Unbaked 8 or 9 “ pie shell (recipe below)
2 cup sour cream
2 Tablespoon flour
1 cup sugar
3 cups blackberries fresh or frozen (you can use any berry!). If using frozen, allow to thaw and drain juices before using.
1 Tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees
Mix together sour cream, sugar, and flour and set aside
Spread blackberries in the pie shell and sprinkle with lemon juice.
Cover the berries with the sour cream mixture.
Optional: Brush crust with egg wash (mix 1 egg with two teaspoons milk)
Optional: If adding decorations to the edge “glue” them using egg wash.
Optional: You can bake pie crust decorations separately (cut out and bake for about 7 minutes, but keep your eye on them) and press into filling AFTER pie has baked.
Bake at 425 degrees for ten minutes, then reduce heat to 325 degrees and continue baking for 40 minutes.

Pie Crust Recipe * I like to use this for one pie crust with plenty left over for decorations

Ingredients:
½ cup shortening
4 Tablespoons cold butter
2 ¼ cups flour
¼ tsp salt
½ cup ice cold water

Instructions
In large bowl cut shortening, butter, flour, and salt together.
Add cold water and stir with fork. If there is left over flour, add a bit more cold water a teaspoon at a time. You don’t want your dough sticky, so just add a bit.
You can divide dough in half for two pie crusts, but I like to use this recipe for one crust and left over for decorations. I always need more dough than most pie crust recipes call for!
Wrap dough in plastic wrap and form into a disc. Let it chill at least 30 minutes before using. If dough is too firm, let it sit for a few minutes before rolling. You can also store in the freezer for later use.
If you are prebaking, bake in oven at 400 degrees for 14-15 minutes.
