comealivelet’s go out to the woods and check outnaturebecause we are part of this we arepart of thismother earth gaiait’s our mother and it’s our homefull of so many diverse species likebirds andlizards snakes deerall sorts of stuff eventuallywelcome to vlog 16. today we’re going tomake a strawberryapple pie my first one ever and i’mexcited to do itso the first thing we gotta do is getour ingredients ready so let’s gocheck out where they are as i go tocooks.com to get my pie crust recipemy favorite one is easy pie crust frompillsbury bake off so let’s try that oneall right we got it hereeasy pie crust and pillsbury bake off sowe need two cupsof pillsbury all-purpose flour of courseyou can use any kind of flour you gotone teaspoon of salt two thirds cup ofshorteningand five to six tablespoons of ice coldwatervery easy ingredients to come by so fari gotalmost everything everything here hereis the shortening flouruh we need just the salt and waterthat’s itso now we’re gonna get our first cup offlouri level that off what i use is a butterknife right hereget a nice even surface and now you knowyou have exactly one cup so you don’tover or under do the ingredientsand now let’s take the second cup andthere goes the second cupthat oneteaspoon of salt which is fivemillimeters if you follow the metricsystemmilliliters not millimeters so there yougotwo-thirds cup of shortening but we’regonna use twoone-thirds cups to get ourselvestwo-thirds cups so here goes our first130 cup so now we have the two-thirdscups of shortening in there and uhthe final ingredient is five tosix tablespoons of ice cold waterthere goes ice cold water coon is righthereand let’s get that cold water into ourflourjust make sure it’s nice and fullthese are easy to do just make sure it’sfull and you dump them inso that’s three fourfive let’s just do six six there we goand then ingredients henceforthare to whisk or sit flour together andsalt until well mixrub shortening into flour withfingertips are cutinto using two knives or a painta pastry blender until mixture has lumpsthe size of small peasthrough a small glass of ice and waterusing a tablespoon measure spoon outone tablespoon of ice water at a timestirring quickly into the flour mixtureusingonly enough water five or sixtablespoonsfor the phd to come together mixturewill be crumblythen we take it and divide into twoportions with the larger half being fromthe bottom of the pie crustshape each portion into a half thickdish sheetsmooth out the edges with wrap andplastic and rest for 20 minutesroll out on lightly floured work surfacesize of one and a half inches largerthan a pie panfit into pan loosely bake according todirectionsgiven in the pie recipe being used sothose are the directions people andwe’re going to follow thatto a tea let’s get to itnow that the mix is pea-sized andcrumbly we’re going to take it withouthands mushtogether and get it too nice andtwo uniform balls so let’s do it so nowwe havetwo separate pie crusts we’re gonna workon here i just tookone nice piece rounded it upmy hands and then cut it in half andthen we’re going to put thatin a plastic bag so that it traps itsmoistureand kind of settles you just take it andput it in the corner of the bag and thenjusttwist it up of course it’s easier withtwo hands or when you’re filmingsometimes you got no choice but to useoneso then i just take it like thisput it on top of the knot and let itrest for 20 minutesand in the meantime we’re going to cutout some apples which we have over hereand we’re going to dice up somestrawberrieslet’s get to the next scene so insteadof doing exactly what it saysin a strawberry rhubarb recipe i’m goingto augment that a little bitlet’s map this do appleswhich are right there and strawberriesfoxy so i don’t know about you but ilike my apples peeled soi’m gonna peel some apples we have theapple peeler right herelet’s get started on thatso now we got all four apples skinnedand now it’s time to chop them up let’sturn it upnow i’m hoping that this is three cupsof strawberriesso i have one cup here let’s see howit adds up try to get that into thisbowl right here just go for itso that’s one cupthat’s two cupsand that is three cups perfectand we still have a little leftover i’mjust gonna eat theseso now it’s time for strawberries it isstrawberry timeso we’re gonna take these and dices upas wellchop off the little green littlehairstyles they got onand get them into this bowl with theireyebrows it is timeyou just startedso we got one cup of strawberries righthere i already measured it sonow it’s time to finish chopping up thesecond cupa little tower right therepretty that’s pretty so now we haveabout two coats of strawberriesi’m gonna put them in here with theapples it’s gonna be a strawberry appleparty in thereoh yeahright now we are out of the makeinstead we’re going to use pure almondextract let’s see how it’s going totasteso what i’m going to do is try to fillthis one teaspoon about1 4 of the way it’s an estimateoh i said it’s close to one-fourth theway uplet’s put that in here now see thatwould have beendid not make but vanilla extract sorrypure almond extractis a strong ingredientone and one fourth cup of sugar that’sone cup of sugarhad it pretty leveled off now let’s gofor this1 4 cup sugar here it isthere we go little white mountain sugarthereoh my gosh it’s a wide mani’m gonna do the 1 4 teaspoon of salti’m not exactly doing this in order justthe way i feel convenient right now ofcourse you can do yours in orderthen we have here three tablespoons ofcornstarchi think this gives it more of the umkind ofthe gelatinous filling kind of texturethat youusually see with pine pie feelingsof course this one needed the uh butterknife to level it off and that helped alotbecause it’d be level and let’s add thatyou also need one tablespoon of butterand we’re not with butter i think mostbutter containers or butter packageshave the measurements on this one hereyou can see it saysuh four tablespoons five six seven eightso i’m gonna cut offoh roughly a tablespoon and get that ontherewell in there i’m just going to stirthis around a little bitprince i want to add a little cinnamonto mypeachy mix the recipe didn’t call for itbut umi love cinnamon so let’s add somethat’s about all i’m gonna do there andstir it up a little morea little quick stirthat smells beautiful wowwhoa i love i love cinnamon so much someof my favorite spicesever in the worldall right now so on to the next thingi’m going to take these two pie crustsand get them rolled outand get that into a pie pan what i liketo do is take a little bit of flourand add that to my surface so thatthe dough doesn’t stickso just take a little bit sprinkle iton your surface and just kind of powerit aroundand now we have a non-stick surfacehere goes our piece of dough we havehere and it’s a little softer and moistandit’s ready to be rolled out it feelsverydifferent than i did earlier so puttingin a plastic bag letting it rustdoes change the doughchanges the texture so it’s always agood idea to do thatlet’s roll it outonce you have your pie crustto about the right size you want to takeyouryour pie pan and put it over top and seeifthat is likely to fit and it looks likeit’s just about rightso i can lift this up and put it insidethe pie panso i’m just getting the pie crust insidethe pan hereand then justyou know kind of getting across pullingthe crustup to the areahigh enough so that you can put thecrust so that the flame gets insidecomfortablyand then you put the other pie quest ontopand this is what it looks like to thisportion here is thatthe filling goes in there nicely and youclose thesecond crust on top and then we got twopie crusts herenow let’s get the filler inside and thenthe second pie crust on topand we’re gonna take it andjust kind of press it down in ourfingersso that we seal the crust seal the twocrusts togetherand that sound right there was our ovenpreheatedmeans the now preheat it to 350. that’swhat that sound meanslet me review what that looks like forme on topand you can make it look a little bitprettier than this but this iswhat it looks like right now so nowwe’re going to put some nice littleslits on toplike my slit look like a nice big mi don’t see any w in the bottomand there we go let’s put that party outtherethere we go now it’s time to bake forone hourit’s already created 350. so let’s setthe timersome light over here okaytime clockstart and there we go one hour we’llcheck itand see how it looks so now the pie isdonelook at that it’s beautiful nice andtan on topand we have a little emblem there the mwand let that cool down for a bit i’llgive it about maybe10 minutes and then we’re gonna take aslice and see how it tastesso here’s this beautiful pie cut intoyou can see the appleand strawberry filling insideand it’s pretty normal for the pastryfilling to kind of ooze on the sideshere so don’t worry about
