Apple Crumble Pie Recipe
For the crust:
-1 1/4 cup flour
-2 tsp sugar
-1/2 tsp salt
-1 stick cold unsalted butter cubed
-1/2 ice water
Mix dry ingredients (flour, sugar, and salt) in a large bowl with a fork. Put butter in the bowl and crumble the butter into the dry mixture until you get small clumps. Gradually add your cold water 1 tablespoon at a time. Once your dough is crumbly but still soft, use your hands to form a large ball, seal it with plastic wrap, and refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes.
For the crumb topping:
-1 cup flour
-1/3 cup light brown sugar
-1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
-1/4 tsp salt
-1 stick unsalted butter cubed
Mix your dry ingredients (flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt) together with a fork. Add your stick of butter to the dry mix and combine using your hands. Clumps are OK! Put your topping in the refrigerator to keep cold.
For the filling:
-3-4 apples
-4 tbsp unsalted melted butter
-1/3 cup sugar
-1/4 cup brown sugar
-2 tbsp flour
-1 tbsp lemon juice
-1 tsp cinnamon
-1/8 tsp salt
Have an adult help you cut the apples into cubes. Add all of your filling ingredients into a large bowl and mix it all up with a fork.
Assembling the pie:
Preheat your oven to 400°F. Take your dough out of the fridge and put flour on your work area so that the dough doesn’t stick to the surface. Roll out your dough with a rolling pin. Spray a pie pan with cooking spray and put your rolled out pie dough on top. Stretch your dough to cover the pan if necessary. Press the dough into the pan and cut around the edge of the pan with a butter knife to get rid of any excess dough that’s hanging off the edges. Add your filling mixture, and then top with your crumb topping mixture. Have an adult help you put the pie in the oven and let it bake for 30 minutes. Once it’s done, let the pie cool down and enjoy (maybe with some ice cream?)!
