Elk meat recipe. How to cook ground elk meat into a delicious pot pie. (Optional: Beef Pot Pie)
1 lb. ground elk (or ground beef)
2 c. 1/2″ diced potatoes
1 chopped onion
1 minced garlic clove
8 oz. chopped mushrooms
2 c. shredded colby jack cheese
2 T. butter
2 T. extra virgin olive oil
1 t. dried parsley
1/2 t. salt
peper to taste
garlic salt to taste
1 pie crust (homemade preferred)
Preheat oven to 375 F. Heat olive oil in medium heat and cook potatoes for 5 min.
Add onion & garlic. Cook 5 min.
Add ground elk & cool until browned. Season with all seasonings pour into 9″ pie pan.
Melt butter in skillet on medium heat. Add mushrooms and cook until browned. 5 min.
Spoon mushrooms on top of elk mix in pie pan.
Top with shredded cheese.
Carefully place pie crust on top and add slits to crust.
Bake 30-40 min or until golden brown.
During last 15 min. of baking, cover with foil strips to prevent excessive browning.
Optional broil for last few min. to brown top.
Let stand 5 min. before serving.
