hello my name is aya welcome to mychannel or welcome back today I’m goingto be making a banana bread blind ifyou’re new to my channel welcome my nameis aya I’m 23 and yes I am blind but Istill love to bake and I’m going toteach you guys how I do so without sighthow fine the ingredients how I mix how Icook and there’s so many misconceptionsof awareness one of them being thatbaking and cooking are a sightedactivity that needs site to do itproperlythat is not true the most importantthing when it comes to cooking andbaking is taste as well is it taste goodwe’re good and I’m going to teach youguys a lot of non visual techniques thatI use in my own kitchen to bake and cookreally delicious food so let’s getstarted today we’re making a bananabread and the first thing that I dowhenever cooking or baking anythingobviously is looking at my recipe I loveto use my alexa to a premium recipe sothat I can can’t breathe so I have arecipe in mind by Alexa I’ll be readingit for me and then I’ve gone ahead andI’ve gathered my ingredients so I knowwhere everything is in my own kitchen sohere we have some flour some white sugarsome salt over here I put some eggs andthen we have baking soda vanilla extractwe have some three ripened primarybananas and then we have my measuringcups and a mug with a fork in it sothese are the tools that I’m going tomusic to make it up and so now that Iknow where all my ingredients are I putthem off the side and I have a cleanclear work area to work with but numberone most important thingwhen it comes to cooking web visuallyimpaired or blind if you think yourfingers so I always make sure to havereally clean hands I frequently wash myhands while baking or cooking very veryoften because I’m using them so much andI don’t want to cross contaminate okayso the first step that I’m going to doin this recipe which will be linkedbelow is I’m going to crack and beat anegg the recipe calls to beat the eggactually in the ingredients like withinthe flour within the bananas but I liketo do this separately just so I can makesure that it’s pretty well mixed beforeI put it into everything okay so goingto crack my egg Gordon Ramsay says toalways crack it flat on surfaces and Ihave to crack it pour it into the mugand then throw the shell so I give onehard bang then I put my fingers togetherand peel away the show now I always wanta garbage can right nearby so that I canthrow it out take my fork mix itI love eating my edge in a mug one of myfriends taught me this trick and becauseit’s a really inclusive surface you’regonna eat it really quickly so now I putthe X to the side I have this mixingbowl in front of me and three extremelyripe bananas so every computer and plopit it does anyone else peel them fromtheand these are very right to the pointwhere I probably couldn’t do anythingelse to the project while cooking weblines always a garbage can nearbybecause if things get messy you don’twant to have a peel around your kitchenor something that have to clean up lateryou want to be able to just throw themoutas you go now we’re going to take a forkand end up so what I like to do is Ilike to chill to my bowl I think to keepthem out kind of like an angle so that Ican match them against the wall and thatway I can also feel where my chunks aregenerally the bigger the bowl the harderI find it to mix because you know stuffcan go in more places that you can’tdiscover like along the walls so if Ikeep it to a confined space generallyit’s easier lucky for me these are superripe and a fork will suffice you cangenerally feel with the fork when it’sall mashed up like when you don’t feelany more lumps or bumps with the fork orwhatever using to mix with that’s whenyou know it’s pretty good and you’regonna keep mixing it anyway this so allthese lumps are gonna come offeventually you can with a clean fingermaybe you know pad it if it’s somethingthat only you and your family are gonnabe eating just to make sure so now thatmy bananas are mashed it up I can grabmy butter this recipe calls for fivetablespoons I know that I will stick ofbutter just eight tablespoons and so mypeople spoons is a littlelaughs so you can kind of do it likethat it or not perfectly fine if youwant to be a lot more exact with it thatare actually I don’t ever be my eyes tohelp you actually cut out the notchwhere it’s exactly five tablespoons oryou can do that someone nearby so I’mgoing to mix in the salt mix it a bitthe key is to just keep mixingjust like when I did a video recentlyabout how I did my makeup I said thatthe key is to just keep blending wellthe key and cooking is to just keepmixing and when you think you have itmixed about mix of war so I finishedmixing in the butter with the bananaslike I said mixing is the most importantand challenging part I feel for someonewho’s blind or visually impaired so justlike I said of how I do my makeup as ablind woman is that I blend blend blendblend blendhow I because the point woman is I’vemix it mix it mix it mix it mix so nextstep is a teaspoon of baking soda and apinch of salt so I’ve broughtingredients out so I have my entity inthe rate of measuring spoons I keepthese on the ring so as soon as I washsomething and it dries it goes back onthe rig in the proper place and thereason for that is that I can memorizewhere these foods are so I know that theteaspoon is the fourth spoon here so 1 23 4 is teaspoon because generally whenyou have dreams of cups or spoons orsomething like that it goes into patternso it’ll go like 8 forward half full tomemorize the pattern and that way youcan always have your handy dandy usespoon another way to do it obviously isto Braille it but five dots or anythingthat you want so my other tip forcooking as a blind or visually impairedperson I try my bestto pour as much as possible I like todip so instead of pouring the bakingsoda into a spoon I dip my spoon intothe box of baking soda so I open it up Idip my spoon like I said my hands areclean I always wash my hands severaltimes dry them scoop off the top andthen put that bad boy in there we gothat’s much easier for me rather thantrying to pour something and potentiallyspilling it everywhere next I’m going tograb salt this recipe calls for a pinchof salt so after washing my hands againand drying them of course though I sonow we’re gonna mix some more and I liketo mix as I go rather than doing one bigmix at the end I feel like there’s moreopportunities for things to get mixedand if I miss a spot now hopefully lateror in the final mix that’ll get mixed intoo so even if the recipe says to pour abunch of things and then next generallyI only poured one or two things mix it alittle bit then keep going so now we’regoing to add the sugar like I said withthe spoons measuring cups are the sameway so I have them always on a ring andthey gofinn’s or half and then cup so I alwaysknow how much so this calls for at 3/4of a cup I’m going to dip this in againwash my handshands and clean pencil and then skim offthe top if needed one so now like I saidI’m going to mix again just a little bitso that we don’t have one big mix in theend I’m doing circular motions with myport trying to grab things that are atthe edge so things tend to kind of clumpup at the walls of the opposite side youwant to kind of gather it all in onearea tilting up a little bit so thatgravity will help you and then kind ofin a circular motion try to combine themso it’s a mixture of combining andgathering combining and dollar you caneven tilt your bowls in differentdirections to help you for a mix it morethoroughly I’m getting it later but fornow let’s add our vanilla extract so oneof the hardest things to do I find ispouring liquids the best way that Ifound to do it is to hold my tea spoonover a bowl so that whenever I spillwhen I’m pouring the vanilla extractcatches the ball and then I canrepurpose it later report back in lateror use that for something else I’m youknow to flavor something else that daydoesn’t the hardest part I feel I alwaysspill at them so I hold the spoon notfrom like the handle but I kind of putmy hands underneath the actual like oldpart of it I just find it’s more stablelike that then with my right hand I justslowly pour and then with my left thumbI kind of try to judge if it’soverflowing or not with clean handsso a little bit but not too bad we coulddrink my bowl as close as possible tothe other bowl and pour it in greatcould have gone a lot worse I think okayso now I dropped my half cup from therain using the same technique I showedyou guys before and I have myhandy-dandy flower and this recipe callsfor one and a half cups so I’m going todo three half cups the cock-up kind offits better year two so dipping itgiving off the top pouring it in so nowthe very last step is adding whateverextra sort of ingredients you want Ichopped up some wallets and somemacadamia nuts I think I’m done fixingfinally so now I have some keep sprayingand the dish I’m going to be baking ituncap the cooking spray and I can feelthat the notch is in front of me and notgoing to towards my face because there’sa little bit of single there then I justpoint and shootso I’ve sprayed the cooking spray and Iwent ahead and I kind of wiped it in thepeople towels that evenly distribute itnow we’re just quick pour our batterinto this so this um kind of mixing bowlthat I have is really good because ithas like a spout that makes it easierfor pouring I really recommend thisespecially for blind bakers so I’mholding the bowl in my left hand with myright hand I am placing the cooking dishthat we are going to be usingI went ahead and I switched to a rubberspatula because it’s weight is your menuin the core can kind of feel either withyour hands or the spatula helps pull thepinions and try to evenly distribute itwe are all doneI have successfully although basicallypoured the batter you might get some ofthe sides of the tin that you’re usingto they get the glass dish in my case sowhat I knew is either with like a rubberspatula that I was using or with myfingers clean fingers I push down on thesides to make sure not only thateverything is level but that there’snothing kind of little crust on theperimeter that are going to crust overand burn okay so next we just need topop this in the ovenI’ve already have an oven preheated to350 degrees it’s pretty easy to preheatyour own evident when you are blindbecause you can either put a bump dotvery commonly used temperatures in mycase 350 degrees a lot of time forbaking that is very common or you couldput Braille or you can use apps like AIAor my eyes that I’ve talked aboutpreviously on my channel which allow asighted person to kind of guide youthrough basically FaceTime it is areally important to be a fire safe notburn yourself especially with me beingblind I do tend to not leave her at myhands but actually a common place toburn myself is my forearms because as Ireach into the oven I might bake likeforearm into something so I have thesehuge mittens I guess and I can touch mystove for days and nothing will burn soI’m going to hold my dish with my lefthand open my stove with my right handand then I can feel it is inside for thetray pull it out a little bitand that’s how I use my oven wood blindsonly gonna bake it for 40 minutes checkon it and then see how it goes so we’llcheck back in with you guys after 40minutes and we aren’t done after 40minutes I took the banana bread out ofthe oven and slice it up so it came outreally nicely I hope you guys enjoyedwatching the tactile ways that I thinkindependently as a blend of it I hopeyou guys liked what you saw if you didfeel free to hang out in the commentsbelow let me know what you thoughtsubscribe like the video do whatever itis you want to do and hope you guys havea wonderful day and hope you guys makesome amazing banana breads like I didbye
