Today I will be showing you a simple, but delicious recipe for white bread.
WRITTEN RECIPE //
Ingredients:
– 2 tbsp active dry yeast
– 1 tbsp white sugar
– 2 cups water
– 1 cup milk
– 2 tbsp softened butter
– 6 cups bread flower
– 1 tbsp salt
1.) Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let stand for 10 minutes, until frothy.
2.) Lightly combine butter, milk, 4 cups of the flour, and salt, then add the yeast mixture.
3.) Progressively add the remaining flour and combine.
4.) Pour dough onto a floured surface. Knead and add small amounts of extra flour until no longer sticky.
5.) Oil a large bowl, turning the dough in the bowl until coated in oil, then cover with a damp towel and let rise in a warm location for 1 hour.
6.) Preheat oven to 400 degrees fahrenheit. Divide dough in half into lightly greased loaf pans, and let rise once more for 40 minutes.
7.) Bake for 25 – 30 minutes.* Remove from oven and let cool before removing loaves from the pans. Enjoy!
*I like to add a pan of cold or ice water to the bottom rack. This keeps the bread crust from potentially cracking. I highly recommend it; it really does wonders.
