The Best Waffle I Have Ever Tasted (Recipe) and cooking tips. Sourdough Waffle Starter Necessary

The Best Waffle I Have Ever Tasted, BAR NONE. This is a recipe and cooking tips for how to make sourdough waffles. Although, much of this does apply to making any waffle, if you want the best tasking waffles you have ever had, sourdough starter is necessary.

You can create a sourdough starter from scratch in a about a week. That is exactly what I did. Once I got my starter to the point where I could cook with it, I began searching for recipes. So far, this one of our favorites. Besides being very easy and incredibly delicious, it is healthy.

I have found that since I began cooking with my homemade starter, my gut is happier and I feel better than I have in a very long time.

You can ask your friends or check with your local bakery. They may have a starter that they will be happy to share. I have a six year old rye starter that I got from someone on Next Door about a week after I started my first. Mine is a whole wheat starter.

I have numerous other videos that include Sour Dough Starter TIPS and HOW TO’s, Sourdough bread recipes, how to make sourdough bread, pizza, etc. I will be making lots more videos so please subscribe and come back soon. Oh, and tell your friends, sharing is caring.

SOURDOUGH WAFFLE RECIPE

Makes about four waffles…we find that it makes exactly 4 waffles in our vintage waffle maker 🙂

1/2 Cup Sourdough Starter (This Is a MUST HAVE)
1/2 Cup Flour (You can use any flour but, we use all purpose flour)
1/2 Cup Buttermilk (You can substitute milk but, the flavor will be lacking)
1/2 Cup Mile (Any kind but, preferably whole milk with all the fat)
1 Tablespoon Oil (any vegetable oil, we use canola…a teaspoon may be enough)
1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
1-2 Teaspoons Sugar (any kind but, we favor cane or turbinado)

The sourdough starter and the buttermilk give these waffles their amazing flavor. The baking powder is necessary to help the dough rise. That is what gives the waffle “lift” causing the waffle iron to lift up as it cooks. You know your waffle is done when the waffle iron lifts up. Don’t be afraid to let them book a tiny bit longer. I am always afraid to burn them so, I often undercook them. They still taste delicious but, if you want that amazing golden brown color, you have to be patient.

Any waffle iron will work. We have a vintage waffle iron that we love. Classic waffle irons work as well, or better, than new ones. You can find them at garage and estate sales.
