I’ve got so much love for fried chicken, yet it doesn’t love me back with what it does to my body (and that’s OK!). As a lower calorie alternative and a less wasteful one, you can air fry them. Don’t believe it? Let’s prove that otherwise.
Yes it isn’t EXACTLY like a deep-fried fried chicken but you’ll be able to satisfy the call for fried chicken with this. We also go off the rails by showing you an incredible cornbread waffle and a spicy maple syrup to pair together. Let’s do this!
“Fried” Chicken Ingredients:
– 2.5 pounds chicken thighs
– 2 cups buttermilk
– 1/4 cup hot sauce
– 1 tablespoon (tbs) poultry seasoning
– 1 tbs red pepper flake
– 2 tbs paprika
– 1tbs each salt & black pepper, to taste
Flour Dredge Ingredients:
– 3 cups flour
– 2 tbs onion powder
– 1 tbs poultry seasoning
– 1 tbs garlic powder
– 2 tbs paprika
– 2 tbs potato starch OR corn starch
– 1tbs each salt & black pepper, to taste
Waffle Mix:
– 1 large egg
– 1/4 cup vegetable oil
– 1/2 cup buttermilk
– 1 cup martha white cornbread mix + extra as needed
– half can of whole corn + extra as needed
– 1 tbs unsalted butter
Spicy Maple Syrup:
– 1 cup maple syrup
– 1 tbs brown sugar
– 1 tbs red pepper flake
– 2 tbs hot sauce
– 1 tbs apple cider vinegar
– 2 tbs butter
– 1 tbs corn starch & water, as needed
