Cook alongside Lisa and Charlotte of Little Wren Cooking! Today we are making delicious Blueberry Pancakes.
We start with a run through of the ingredients and kit that you will need. We cook in real time with you and at a child friendly pace.
We will keep sharing fresh and fun recipes for the family to make together – most of the elements will be achievable by the children (supervised of course!). The videos look long, but that’s because we stay with you for the duration of the cooking (except once things are in the oven).
Ingredients for about 8 pancakes:
– 150g plain flour;
– 1 teaspoon baking powder;
– 3 pinches of salt;
– 1 egg;
– 150ml milk;
– 30g caster sugar;
– 30g butter;
– 125g (or so) of fresh blueberries.
Optional to serve with: bananas and maple syrup.
Kit list includes: Mixing bowl, measuring cups, scales, wooden spoon, ladle, frying pan and spatula (for flipping the pancakes!).
Don’t forget your plates for service! Don’t worry about keeping the cooked pancakes in the oven whilst you make the rest – they never get that far in our house!

welcome to littering cooking where thekids get to do the cooking and thegrown-ups get to do the eating we aregoing to be making some deliciousblueberry pancakes today okay soaccording to our recipe we need 150grams of plain flour a teaspoon ofbaking powder three pinches of salt 150milliliters of milk 1 egg 30 grams ofcaster sugar as many blueberries as youcan spare and some maple syrup as anoptional now I have laid out all of myingredients in the order that we’regoing to use them just to help meremember what we need and we have asieve and a mixing bowl wooden spoonwhisk measuring jug and over there wehave our large frying pan with thebutter ready to go the ladle and the[Music]make sure it says zero to start off withnow we don’t push it down their fingersotherwise we’re going to measure ourfingers and not have enough so we need115 million grams hundred fifty gramsmilliliters is funny quotes and grams151 we can have one or two extra gramsthat’s fine so we’ve got the flourbaking and we need one teaspoon ofbaking powder now do you remember whatthe baking powder does to it no it makesthem carbon dioxide bubbles which makesyour busser go light and fluffy whatelse do we need a little bit of salt sowe’re going to add in three pinches ofsalt we don’t want too much in there cuzit would just be too salty so generallyas we’re cooking we get to try all ofour ingredients don’t we but what arethe two things that we don’t eat raweggs raw meat so we make sure that themore thirst but otherwise I alwaysencourage you to try your food firstnow we’ve both got our aprons on becausewe don’t want to get ourselves to grumpybut also we don’t want the class gettinginto the food okay did you want tofinish me I said no one way sniffingwe’re just giving it a gentle tap for agentle shake and then just make surethat we’re going to have big lumps inour flour but it also helps to make itnice inviting fluffy it does I think itlooks like snow how high up can you doit without it going everywhere and howhigh how can you do it without it that’spretty high Oha bit lower against how well my ownskipperwas it as high as your arms could go Idon’t think I would do that because I’dprobably get it all on your head okaynow we need some castor sugarhow much castor sugar we need thirtygrams and we need to stir this in withthe wooden spring I’m going to sip thisas well because this has got sugar doesit show you are you alone I thought 33rooms in therenow you don’t need to use quite as muchsugar if you don’t want it to be thatsweet you can look into the alternativesugars so in casethe easiest way to get shots get a bitof water on your finger but all you tryto pull us out because it will stick toyou your finger into another side okayso egg into the bowl I need to add somemilk into there so let’s pop this on thescalesit’s my zero that’s off and then nowwhat do I say we measure liquids in asit grams grams or milliliters forliquids 115 now Charlotte is justbreaking up the egg in it yeah it’salready mixed in there oh did I look itslowly for youcan we pick that up again greatpersonally I like that now we haven’tadded the blueberries in yet because wewant to make sure they really stir andmix through this bottle and make sure wedon’t have any surprise ups of flourbecause when we bite into our pancakeswe don’t want toand how does your mixing at home you’vegot really strong arms to help you withmixing it’s because all the flowersstill numpy we need to make sure that wemix it oh so it’s not never be likeporridge see this fortunately for meisn’t to missing a recipe but at the endof it we can see who’s got the messiestfingers apparently not so if you’resharing making this make sure that youall get a good turn at mixing I haven’tso please just let this one yes pleaseoh I got slimed away this as well okaynaturally adding some blueberriesblueberries when they cook just get sucha lovely sweetness to them why don’t youput your believers in don’t mix itreally hard we’re basically just foldingthem through wow there are some superfatty little blueberries in here let’spour some more in there well you have tothe blueberry pancakes when you biteinto the blueberries they might be hotwhen they first come off the stove butwe think they just add such lovelysweetness so now we’re at our cookingstage it is so importantbecause it’s so hot it melts the butterbut we don’t want it to do is melt ourskin as well so it’s always always superimportant to laugh well yeah to have ourgloves and things on we’ve got niceaprons on at the moment as well whichalso give us some protection but we aregonna pop and this will not look butterinto the pan now once the butter getshot in the pan it might fizzle a littlebit do I thirst for getting the bakingtrays out Charlotte says that she thinkssome of the bluebird look like giantbubbles in there what does your mixerlook like does have giant bubbles inthere – blue ballswhat else – can I get fruit could youput in here Charlotte I don’t thinkpiece is a vegetable you can put bananason top of the pancakes at the end whatelse do you think do you think you coulddo strawberries they taste okay what theblueberries do on that but like warm aswell don’t they so for this bit we needa ladle mixture in there now so you needjust a small Natal spoon it depends onhow greedy you want to be if you’ve gotlots of people wanting pancakes straightaway I would suggest doing little onesso they can all get one of the start[Music]perfect that’s fantasticmy shadow did a really good thing shekept the ladle nice and low there so itdoesn’t flip her up everywhere okayhappy with that it’s not flicking iteverywhere how many blue grouse do youhave in yoursone two three four five six seven howmany in mine and he’s the spare one fourno no it’s four and Nana’s now we go sothis is what you’re looking for you’regonna starts getting some bowls in therethe edges will also start to look a bitdifferentsee how it’s sliding all the way aroundmmmsee that’s not slighting so it’s notready yet and then we want to flip itshake shake shake Sonora was too soon ohI wonder if your pancakes will do thesame I think I just split in half but asCharlotte says at least I get twopancakes now what we’re gonna do is seeif we can slide under that one it wasthe biggest one should I try my nexthalf yeah that looks much better not myneck is it not ready Thanks we’re gonnahave a look at the bubbles see ya Wowbubblicious they are you see a littlebit of blue very starting to explodemaybe we don’t put fingers too closethank you so we’re gonna do there we go his way his way nowcontrol measurestaking the shoes off Michael I’m sonervousthat’s okay oh this is how deliciousthey look can you hear the pre verypoppingso while you’re waiting for these platesready and some folks as well I’m gonnasuck them all on the same way cuz we’veonly used about half of our mixture nowif you wanted to you can have a placethat can go into the oven and keep themnice and warm but no we’re gonna waitfor them to cool we are too greedy doyou want to do some flipping in this bitno you can make 4 in there did you twosmaller scoops on the other side notthat tiny that’s gonna be a little umthat’s a no okay I know I like littletiny that’s it don’t don’t swirl itaround those all those little bits aregonna get burnt[Music]now Charlotte has just made it looksmore like a big blueberry with a littlebit so again working the pause on therecording while this cook you let yourscook as well you won’t be – we’ll just -so let them get nice and crispy turnthem
