I made this video to share with my 4th graders since we were studying fractions and measurement before leaving school for the COVID-19 pandemic. I thought this would be a fun and delicious way to help practice those skills. *Thanks to my cameraman aka my 8-year-old son.

hey guys we’re gonna do a video on howto make homemade chocolate-chip cookiessince we were talking about measurementbefore we left for our long spring breakwe’re going to do some measurementactivities so the first thing we’regoing to need for our chocolate chipcookies is we are going to it’s going tocall for 2 and 1/4 cup of flour so ifyou look at my measuring cup I have areally large measuring cup here so ofcourse between the 2 and the 3 rightthere that line in between would be twoand a half and since 1/4 is 1/2 of a ishalf of a half we’re gonna we’re goingto put our flour somewhere kind of righthere between the two and that two and ahalf mark line and we hold that for meplease yes ma’am thank you alright soI’m going to just use a measuring cuphere to kind of put it in here I’m gonnafill this up until we get to the two andso you can see so we’re not quite up tothe two and a half mark lon but we’rebetween there so we got two and 1/4 nowour recipe also calls for a teaspoon ofbaking soda and I do not have a teaspoonso I have 1/2 teaspoon so instead I’mgonna use two of these 15 halves make awhole so we’re gonna make there’s 1/2 sothose two halves make one teaspoon andthis also calls for a teaspoon of saltand for these cookies it’s importantthat you do your dry ingredients thatwould be your flour your your well notall your dry ingredients but your flouryour salt and your baking sodayou’re going to mix those separately ormix those I’m sorry mix those togetherand but not mix those with your wetingredients so we’re going to take alittle spoon and actually this is a bigspoon but I’m just going to mix this upand get that all mixed up together andthen we’re going to go on to the nextpart of our cookies alright so the nextpart of our recipe calls for two sticksof softened butter butter so I’vealready softened that put it in themicrowave and hit the soften feature sowe’re going to put our two sticks ofsoftened butter in there now that’s alot of butter but that’s what it costsfor we are also going to put in oursugar and it calls for 3/4 cup of sugarso what I’m going to do I’m gonna get myfourth cup and in how many of thosewould it take if it’s a tree force 3/4cup how many force would it take for itto be a 3/4 yes three times three timesgood so we’re going to take G cuz onefor us then 2 4 and 3/4 good so we’regoing to put three of these in here withour better to last one three and thisalso calls for 3/4 cup of brown sugar sowe are gonna take threesiesI’m gonna in there because brownsugars a lot heavier than regular sugar- and washed one three very good and thelast thing we’re gonna add in here sowe’ve got our sugar both of our sugarsour butter and we are also going to putin a teaspoon of vanilla so I’m gonnause that same teaspoon that I used asecond ago right here usually when I dothis I don’t measure because I likevanilla but I’m gonna do it for this soyes can see so we’re gonna put so sinceeach of these is a half teaspoon and itcalls for one teaspoon I’m putting intoright yep okay come on Jasonyeah so the next thing we’re gonna do iswe’re gonna take this over to ourblender well this is the mixer oh noit’s not like a blender yeah we have amixer at it yes does it one they’regonna mix it all up in theremix it all up first and then we’ll showyou about step there’s this part whereit gets a look itand we are going to stop this for asecond and we are going to add two eggsbut we’re gonna add a one at a time sowhat put it in here nope I got a littleshilling there dudeso we have to get it out oh I see ityeahstay right there get that out rightthere this is what you do yeah here wego we got it out no I’ll see you anotherpart oh you’re right thank youusually when I make things I put theeggs in first in case this happens butsometimes it happens in it yep okay allright got him aloneit happens all right so once you getyour egg in there yeah turn it back onmix it up[Music]I’m saying here a second show you guysput it on for drop it we’re gonna addour other a trial this time not to getany shells in there it happens sometimesI think it’s easier to find those shellsthis time and look what you what did Iget anything on oh just one should watchthe videos alrightthere this down a little bit we’re gonnastart adding in so gonna start adding inthis flour mixture that we had puttogether a minute ago that’s why I’m putit in this big truck because that wayit’s easier to he didn’t just dump it inthe back of the bed buddy there you gothere you go so you’re just gonna keepthanks for letting me be the cameraman[Music]the better it probably takes you no moreyou ahead you have to do it a little bitfaster it gets thicker[Music]let all that mix up for a minuteyou know once you do that and you haveyour dough up ien you want to hold thatfor a second okay so the other thing Iforgot to tell you get you’re supposedto preheat the oven also to 375 I forgotto tell you that those make sure you dothat and then when you put yourchocolate chips in I’m gonna sit itcalls for two cupsI don’t really measure this is off thisis that bad goes let’s see here this onehas this one’s a 12 ounce bag I usuallyput in most of that that’s a wallchocolate chips clean this off and it’sblurry dish yeah makeup you tap thepicture it’ll make it not blurry anymorehmm we’re gonna set this to the sidedoesn’t know somebody they don’t want tolook at here in a minute maybe me eventhough that’s not necessarily what usedto do but you know you can we’ll takethat chanceall right over here in watch what you’redoing[Music]don’t check the whole bag Wow I thinkyou take like half of the bag okay thisis this says it makes about five dozencookies so really if you wanted to dothis recipe you could half it just tomake two and a half if you weren’tmaking a big batch but we’re gonna bequarantine for a while so we’ll bemaking a big batch yeah we need somedessert for supper I know but so this iswhat your dough okay so this is what thedough looks like and next we are goingto get them on our cookie sheets twocookie sheets here both of them I usednonstick aluminum foil so that way I canreuse it after every one I do this eachone’s gonna be about one of these bigtablespoonfuls and space those aboutinch and a half two inches apart okay soI have my first batch on there actuallymade two because I have a double oven soI’m gonna cook them on in two differentovens just to get it finished quickerbut if you only have a single ovenyou’re just going to do one plate at atime or one pane at a time so we’reput these in the oven 375 and we’regonna put those in there for about 9 to11 minutes so let’s we’re gonna put thatin there and I will show you what itlooks like when it comes out okay so Igot the cookies out cooked the one inthe bottom oven they only needed about10 minutes and the one on the top neededabout 11 I think because the pans biggermaybe but once they come out of the ovenyou need to let them sit there for about2 3 minutes something like that 2 to 5minutes I would say because they’restill very soft so once they come out ofthe oven you are going to put them on acooling rack and I’ll show you what momlooks like these breasts look just likeyes they’re just like little metal racksand they sit up and they you just putthe cookies on that to make them firm upand then after a few minutes they’reready to eat so I hope you guys liked mylittle tutorial on how to make cookiesand how it relates to the measurementthat we’ve been talking about in mathand I hope you have a great rest of yourday
