Bread Upma Recipe | Quick Tiffin Recipes | Indian Breakfast Recipe
People have always tried to utilise leftover items or dishes to make something better out of it. Indians call it Jugaad. These experiments have given birth to so many amazing delectable recipes. Bread Upma is one of them. Using the leftover bread, we have created such a yummy and quick recipe for breakfast and tiffin. To give this dish an extra zest, you can garnish the recipe with boondi, farsan, sev or similarly crunchy item.
Ingredients:
8 to 10 Bread slices
4 tsp Oil
1 tsp Rai (Black mustard seeds)
1 tsp Jeera (Cumin seeds)
1 tsp white Urad dal
1 Tbsp Groundnuts
Salt as per taste
1 tsp Sugar
1 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder
1/2 Tsp Haldi powder (Turmeric)
1 chopped Onion
1 chopped Tomato
4 to 5 chopped green chillies
1 piece Ginger
7 to 8 Curry leaves
Grated coconut and Coriander leaves for Garnishing
Procedure:
1) Cut the bread slices into pieces
2) In a Kadhai, pour 3 to 4 tsp Oil, 1 tsp Rai, 1 tsp jeera and let them splutter. Add 1 tsp Urad dal and 1 tbsp groundnuts and stir for a minute on a medium flame
3) Add 7 to 8 curry leaves and saute till aromatic
4) Add 1 chopped onion, saute it and 1 tsp Sugar to enhance the flavour.
5) Add crushed ginger, 1 chopped tomato, 4 to 5 green chillies and saute it till the tomatoes soften
6) Add ½ tsp Haldi, 1 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder, ½ cup Water, ½ Lemon’s juice, salt as per taste and saute well
7) Add the bread pieces and mix it well so that the pieces are coated with the masala
8) Garnish with chopped coriander leaves, grated coconut and Serve Hot.
Tip: You can add extra vegetables of your choice to enhance the taste.
