Nigerian meat pie, is one of the major snacks in Nigeria and now the consumption is widely spreading all over the world. It’s a pastry snack that is full of nutrient, it’s healthy and satisfying. Meat Pie is mostly prepared baked, and these are the ingredients.
1. 6 cups All Purpose Flour.
2. 4 sticks Margarine. and 4 Eggs.
3. 11/4 Tsp Baking powder
4. Minced beef meat.
5. Carrot, Potatoes , and Red onions.
. 6. Thyme, powdered Garlic and Curry powder.
7. Salt and bouillon.
8. Vegetable Oil.
To prepare the filling, which comes first, add a small oil in a pan, cut the onion and set aside, and as soon as the oil is heated, add the onion and sauté until is softened and translucent. Then, add the minced meat and with a spoon mixed properly to crush the small meat balls, if there’s any, lower the heat to do so. Add the seasoning and spices as soon as it’s properly mixed up and allow to cook properly, chop the carrot, and potatoes in cubes and set aside. Add a small quantity of water to the meat, and taste for seasoning before adding the carrot and the potatoes, stir and let it cook for some minutes, now to ensure that the filling is moist after baking and not dry, get some spoons of flour and mix properly in water and add to the filling, stir and cover to cook for some minutes, then the filling is done and ready to be used. Uncover the pot to let the steam out and for the filling to get cold before using.
And for the dough, add the flour in a bowl, with the baking powder and salt, mix properly, then add the margarine, mix properly with your hands. until, it’s wet and forming crumbs, then add the eggs and knead until, it forms into a ball, wrap with polytene bag and put in the fridge to rest for at least 30 minutes. Start the proper kneading, by sprinkling some flour on the surface of the tool for the kneading, place the dough and knead with the rolling pin until it smoothens and flattened. Then, cut with a pie cutter or a small pot cover, remove the extra and now add the filling, brush around it with egg wash or milk as I did to properly seal it to prevent it from ripping open. Then use a fork to properly seal it together, do it all over until the last batch is done. Heat up the oven to get it ready and as soon as everything is ready, transfer the pies in a baking pan, make sure that the pan is greased. Put it in the oven to bake until, it start’s turning golden brown, but not too brown to avoid getting it burnt.
Now, get the pies out, allow to cool, before eating!
