Here’s the recipe:
Pastry dough:
1 1/3 cups flour
3/4 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 stick (113g) butter
ice water as needed
Apple filling:
3 1/2 lbs apples (not too sweet varieties)
2 tsp lemon juice
3/4 cup sugar
3 tbsp flour
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 stick (28g) butter
Cream apple sauce:
1/3 cup cream (single, double or whipping is fine)
2 tbsp apple sauce
Crumb topping:
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 stick (56g) butter
1 tsp cinnamon
2/3 cup chopped nuts of choice (I used half hazelnuts and walnuts)
Crumble all ingredients apart from nuts together with your fingers, then add chopped nuts and mix.
