Today on The Stay At Home Chef I’m
showing you how to make
Perfectly Easy Homemade Waffles
This is my go-to recipe
for homemade waffles. You can keep the
batter in the fridge so you can whip up
fresh waffles in the morning or you can
cook them up and freeze them or keep
them in the refrigerator and reheat them
later for easy on-the-go breakfasts.
In a
large mixing bowl we’re gonna whisk
together about 2 cups of all-purpose
flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder,
1 tablespoon of sugar and 1/4
teaspoon of salt. Like I said you just
want to give this a quick whisk to
combine.
Then we’ll start adding in our liquid
ingredients. You’ll need 1 and 3/4 of a
cup of buttermilk and I do recommend
using buttermilk or you can try one of
my buttermilk substitutes, they’re super
easy. You’ll need two large eggs,
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract and then
last of all 1/2 cup of melted butter
Then you’ll whisk this together until
everything is combined. You should end up
with a batter that’s thick but still
spreadable. You can store this batter in
an airtight container in the fridge for
about three to five days. Just give it a
little stir before you use it. Next
pre-heat your waffle iron. Today I’m
using a Belgian waffle maker but you can
use any shape of waffle maker
How much batter you use will depend on
the shape of your waffle iron and so for
a traditional Belgian style
waffle maker you use about 1/2 a cup of batter.
We’ll get this cooking.
The first waffle is always kind of a test run so you can
figure out how much batter you need.
You want to start out with less though
because you don’t want the batter
squishing out the sides of your waffle
iron. See all this steam coming out of
the waffle maker? This is a good
indicator that the waffle is still cooking.
When the steam stops coming out
it’s a good indicator that your waffle
is done and I just use a fork so I don’t
totally burn myself and pop that waffle
right out. Just keep going until you’ve
used all your batter and it looks like I
could use a little bit more of it
with each waffle. This recipe makes
approximately four belgian-style waffles
but of course if you need more you can
easily double or triple this recipe.
