How to Make Apple Pie

Hello Everyone!

Apple pie is something my whole family really enjoyed. Today I’ll be sharing you guys my favorite recipe. The addition of golden raisins is my take on Dutch apple pie I had in Holland and my husband always says his Mom used to make it with golden raisins soaked in rum (rum is his idea lol) serve this over vanilla ice cream or whipped cream!

Dough

All purpose flour 350g
Sugar 160g
Butter cold cut into cubes 226g (1 cup)
Salt 2g 1/2 tspn
Butter cut into small cubes 225g (
Egg 1 each
Lemon zest
Orange zest
Vanilla extract 1 tspn

Apple filling:

Orange zest 1/2 orange
Lemon zest 1/2 lemon
Butter 116g (1/2 cup
Salt 4g (1/2 tspn)
Vanilla extract 18g (1 Tblspn)
Baking powder 21g (2 Tblspn)
All purpose flour 29g (3 Tblspn)
Cornstarch 50g
White sugar granulated 100g (1/2 cup)
Brown sugar 95g (1/2 cup)
Ground cinnamon 7g
Lemon juice 1/2 lemon
Golden raisins 86g (1/2 cup)
Spiced rum or any rum (1/3 cup)

1 whole egg for egg wash

Cinnamon sugar:

Granulated sugar 1/4 cup
Ground cinnamon 1 tablespoon

Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown 45-50 minutes

Note:

I forgot to add 1/2 juice of lemon!

You can easily just mix everything together instead of making a separate sugar and flour filling but if you wanna make it ahead of time it’s best to make it separate. This pie can also be made ahead of time and freeze. Take it out of the freezer a day before baking and bake as directed.

Make sure to let the pie cool down for 2-3 hours completely before cutting otherwise the pie filling will still be runny. If I’m serving this for dinner I would already bake it in the morning and let it cool down for a few hours and should be ready to serve for dinner.

Soak raisin a few days before making the pie.
