I DO NOT RECOMMEND GALA APPLES. USE A TART APPLE LIKE GRANNY SMITH.
3 or 4 lbs of apples, peeled, cored and sliced
A handful of dried fruit – cranberries would be good
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp.apple spice -optional
1 tsp. vanilla – optional
Mix the apples and berries together in a large bowl. Pour the sugar cinnamon mixture over the fruit along with 2 tblsp. of tapioca and mix well. Let it sit 15 to 20 minutes. Pour into unbaked pie crust that you’ve brushed a beaten egg on the bottom of and roll on the top crust making slits in the top for the steam to escape. Bake 425 F for 15 minutes then reduce the heat to 350 F for 45-60 minutes depending on your oven. Let cool before serving and enjoy!!

hi this is hens that cook and my name isLinda welcome back now in the bowl we’regonna make a apple cherry berry piewhich is going to be so colorful forThanksgiving and Christmas but it’sreally in anytime pie it’s you can makeit any time this is 3 pounds of Galaapples that have been cored and slicedand this is a good handful of mixedberries here is a cup of sugar ateaspoon of cinnamon and about an eighthof teaspoon of nutmegnow you can use apple spice in this youcan also put a tablespoon or so ofbrandy in it you can dress this up ifyou want to but this is all I like in mypie and I really don’t like that muchnutmeg so I got this mixed up I’m sorryI thought you could see I’m mixing thatall up this isn’t a two cup cup measurethat’s why it fits all right I’m goingto take this and pour it on all overthis fruitand we’re gonna let it sit about 10 or15 minutes and then I’ll be back withyoualright guys we’re back the Apple anddried fruits have sat 20 minuteswell it really only takes 15 or 20 Iadded also a teaspoon of vanilla and 2tablespoons of tapioca pudding and youhave to shake that box before youmeasure it out I guess it settlessometime certain but I guess that’s whathappens also this is the bag of berriesand cherries that I used it’s driedfruit now in the bottom of my pie plateI beat up an egg and I spread it on thebottom and when your pie bakes that’sthat’s going to help ensure that youdon’t have a soggy bottom because itforms a shield between your filling andyour pie and your dough so I’m going toput all this in herewell I thought I was gonna have morethan this y’all this is gonna be threepounds of applesthis is gonna be a sad-looking timethe mash your apples are down a littlebit so that you have you ever baked apie and I have that had a big gapbetween the cooked crust and the fillingthat’s because whatever you put in thepie plate shrunk down but the crustdidn’t so that’s just a heads upnow I’m gonna dawn a little bit ofbutter on the top just so it’ll havesome extra flavorI have softened butter but I think coldbutter will be better[Applause]you don’t have to go overboard with itbut you know you want to give it someflavor some added flavorput a little bit more on this sidebecause I sliced that very thin thenpick up put one in the middle I musthave a big pipe and sighs I thought itwas nine-inchall right I’ve already got my top crustrolled out but I’m gonna cut you offwhile I put it on the pie and then we’llbe back pre-heat your oven to 425degrees and we’ll be back hi guys we’reback my pie has cooled but I want totell you right now before I forget thatmy 15 minutes at 425 degrees I noticedthat the the crimping was alreadygetting browned in 15 minutes so when itwas time to turn my temperature down Iused 350 not the 375 I said earlierbecause I realized this pie was cookingtoo fast so the amount of time it’sgoing to take is depend is going todepend on your oven so we’re going togive this a shot hereyou know the first piece is always theworst to get outthat seems right here waitingfor his piece of pie he’s been waitingall day for it since I started it let meseeand mine you know kept waiting for it tobubble and waiting for it to bubble andI thought why is it this pie bubblingwell then I discovered if you’ll seeright here that there was one place thatI didn’t seal well that’s where it wasbubbling so um hopefully the rest ofthis is just heat to 350 or the pie isgoing to bake too fast this tooksomewhere between 50 and 60 minutes I’mnot sure but the stuff that I used to totighten the juices up it worked finewhat did I tell you I used happy oh yeahtapioca and it’ll be over where thejello and stuff are is probably up onthe top shelf but you shouldn’t have anytrouble with this pie at all now you canuse flour yo you can put threetablespoons of flour in with your sugarmixturebut tapioca does such a good job with itand it dissolves you know easily youhave to let it after you put it over thefruit and stuff you got to let it staymixed in for 15 minutes before you putthe pie in the shell and the pie shellbut anyway I hope you enjoyed this videoand I hope you use this during theholiday season Thanksgiving andChristmas or 6. Hi Linda, I’m going to make this. I am diabetic myself and instead of sugar, I’m going to try Stevia or splenda and flour, I’m not sure the sugar in tapioca. Keep the recipes coming. I love your channel

  7. Hi Linda a very pretty pie. Sam is a lucky man. I have 3 pounds is apples in the fridge. I’ll be making this pie for Halloween.

  8. Linda, my wife bought a adjustable silicone ring to use on the outer edge of pie crust to keep the edges from burning. She puts it on just as the edges are starting to darken. It works great. She says she got it at Bed Bath and Beyond. Pie looks great.

  9. That is beautiful!!!I am thinking it would also be nice with raisins, sultanas, dates and buts instead of the berries. As another version. It would be great in individual tarts too! THANKS Linda!
