The Making of Pancakes | Logic Pro Walkthrough 01

This is a walkthrough of how I made the song Pancakes. I hope you enjoy this. At one point or another, I’m sure I’ll do something that makes someone cringe. However, there are plenty of things I do in this video that might make some of you curious to try it out. Who knows? This could be the funniest video to some people. But to others, this is what will take their music to the next level.

Without including the 13 minute break I took (1:10:30), then this took about an hour to make and 20 minutes to refine.

Some of you might notice the Directional Mixer placed on the stereo output. I hope most of you write your songs in Mono and switch it to stereo last second. It’s a great tactic.

Also, to comment on the SP404 reference. No, I was not using an SP404 in this project. However, the Tape Delay feature is linked with my Alesis v49. It’s programmed to toggle the Tape Delay and turn off after I release it. It is modeled after the DJFX Looper on an SP404. However, I was having some trouble getting the Touch and Latch features to work properly with it. As you may notice, I would ultimately end up editing by hand anyway. But that’s okay with me. I’d still rather do it this way. To me, it’s still easier to just push one button and then tweak the Automations (rather than create the Automations from scratch).

This will be added to my next album. I’m officially switching from TuneCore to Distrokid. So, I hope it works out well. I’ve released 225 songs with TuneCore only to be (apparently) wasting all my time. Honestly, it was worth it though. Now I know, first hand, why TuneCore sucks and why Distrokid is probably a way better choice. Who knows, really? All I know is Editorial Playlists will get me paid. So, like Swum Tweeted, I’m not going to make music based around getting playlisted. Yet, to neglect playlist additions is a fools mistake.

I hope to really make these next few months a total turnaround. I started a new job. I’ve actually been closing my Apple Watch Activity rings. Tbh, I’ve been trying to close my exercise ring alone before it’s even 6am. If you know me at all, this is really strange behavior. But hey, I gotta get my money’s worth out of this damn watch.

For those of you wondering, “Pancakes” was simply the first word that popped into my head when I was listening to it in iTunes. So, if you didn’t know why I named it that, I honestly don’t know either.
