[Music]hi this is Oliviathis is Abby and we are the governmentgirls with a special guest starCorrine hello welcome Corrine thank youtoday we are making weight Dutch pancakea baby Dutch pancake which is neitherDutch nor a baby and kind of not reallya pancake so it’s actually German andit’s kind of all of these things we havein front of us here so we’re going towhip up some eggs we’re gonna add insome milk and some cream and some wholewheat flour you can also use regularflour but we’re gonna make a whole-wheatversion today and a little pinch of saltand then we’re gonna bake it and it’sgonna puff up really nicely and we havesome very chia jam that we made sodefinitely check out that video for ourberrycheat jam which goes really reallynicely with this Dutch baby pancake sowe have eggs herethat Corinne is gonna beat and then wehave homo cream wheat flour yep and saltand measuring tool that’s right we’regonna put a half a teaspoon of salt it’simportant when you are baking things andyou have specific measurements thatinvolve things like flour and salt orbaking powder or baking soda that youfollow those ingredient measurementsexactly do you know why why what happensbetween like different things so if youhave too much flour you could get reallyreally really puffy what’s not supposedto do or if you had to a little flourcould get really really thin and likehard all of this is true but basicallywhen you’re baking its chemical reactionso when you’re just cooking on the stovelike you’re making a stir fry orsomething you can put a bunch ofdifferent ingredients in and it’s it’snot going to have a chemical reactionthe way that you would if you are bakingsomething so if you want a cake to riseyou want our pancake to rise you wantthings to get fluffy versus dense andheavy all the ingredients that you usewhen you’re baking kind of have achemical reaction with each other tomake those things happen or not happendepending on whatever you’re making dowe put it in before we makeThanks well let her she can whisk it andthen you can pour it in while she’swhisking if you want yeah sometimes it’seasy if you like what Corinne just didwas she hid the yolks with the whiskfirst which helped to break them whichmakes it easier for her to whiskeverything together I’m going to doexact measurements so it’s the rightconsistency when it’s in the oven so nowI’m gonna add the salt and I spilled alot but when you cook things sometimesget messy you can just clean it up it’snot a big deal and now so she’s addingthe dry flour into the wet ingredientsso you just have to give a little bittime to kind of incorporate it togetherslowly otherwise it can get kind ofgloppy so I’m pouring the flour andlittle by little so because if you gotoo fast it’ll splash everywhere andalso so Corinne can mix it in and mix itin thoroughly I’m just have there beinga bunch of clumps alright so next whatwe’re gonna do is I have a cast iron panthat is looks like this that we’re gonnaput on the stove and we’re gonna meltsome butter in there and then we’regonna put it pour the batter into thehot pan with the melted butter and thenit’s gonna go straight into the oven at425 degrees but before we do that acouple safety points cast iron gets hoteverywhere including the handle so inorder to handle the cast iron handle youneed to use a mint also for the kids outthere cast iron is super heavy these twohad trouble lifting it with one armthemselves so if you’re out there havean adult help you with the cast iron oruse a pan that is not a cast iron panyou can lift without burning yourself orhaving an issue so we’re gonna turnstove on and we’re gonna drop thatCorinne’s gonna drop that butter inthere into the panyep and we’re gonna let it melt normallywhat I would have you do and what’sgoing to be in the recipe is that youwould just simply pour the batter rightinto the pan on the stove turn off thestove and then pop it right in the ovenand it’s about 20 minutes at 425 it’llpuff up and get golden brown but for thepurposes of today olivia is gonna holdthis and I’m going to put the pan onhere she’s going to pour the batter inand then I will put it in the oven Kordaso pour Olivia’s gonna pour it incarefully cuz it’s hot and then do wemix it nope the butter is weird on theside that’s okay the whole thing isgonna get puffed up and then there’ll bea little buttery goodness on the topright and then this is gonna go straightinto the ovenlike so and then we’re gonna put on ourtimer for 20 minutes and we’ll see youback then[Music]okay so this is our Dutch baby pancakewhich is not exactly a baby or Dutch andexactly you can see we just pulled itout of the oven so you can see it’sstarting to collapse in on itself andyou can see all the steam coming out sowe’re gonna serve this with some jam youcan also serve it with yogurt you can doa dessert one and have it with ice creamyou can do a savory one and have it withcheese and ham and all sorts of goodstuff
