I am a southern girl born in raised in Collard Valley in Polk County Georgia. We went to church on Sunday, school during the week, the grocery store on Friday’s and that was our life. No vacations, no camping, just plain old southern country people
NOW FOR THIS FAMILY RECIPE:
1/8 CUP SHORTENING
1/8 CUP ROOM TEMP. BUTTER OR BUTTER SHORTENING
2 CUPS SELF RISING FLOUR
1 EGG
2 TBSP. SUGAR
1 TSP. VANILLA EXTRACT
1 CUP MILK
Cut the shortening and/or butter into your flour with a blending fork until it is about pea size. This makes them rise higher so dont cut it in to tiny pieces. Now add remaining ingredients and mix well. If mix becomes thick thin it a little with some extra milk. (see video for example of when you need more milk) Use 1/4 cup measuring cup or scoop to drop the mix into a preheated skillet. Use a non stick medium skillet on low/medium temperature. When pancakes bubble all the way across flip and cook another minute on the other side. Serve with your favorite panceake syrup and pat them with butter if you wish. I like to eat them without syrup but with powdered sugar cinnamon and nutmeg. Thanks, Tammy

good morning it’s Tammy with card Valleycooks we decided to have pancakes thismorning I said Kris let’s do a livevideo so you can tell it’s morning bylooking at me I didn’t get dressed upwe’re gonna make homemade pancakes fromscratch not out of a mix now there is ahomemade biscuit mix in my cookbook thathas this pancake a recipe on it this isthe volume 2 but we will be mixing theseup without the butter flavored Crisco wedon’t have any but better flavor ofCrisco so we’re gonna use regular butterand Crisco together okay all right wehave some sausage left over from aChristmas party we had a big Christmasparty here and I’m gonna place it inthis air fryer right away and just getit warm while we make our pancakesactually so let’s plug it in turn it oncome on kasoori it’s asleep this morningin two and I think I’m gonna take theminutes down a little bitoh let’s just hit the play button willget it out in a minute okay fer thepancakes you’re just gonna make biscuitmix so I’m gonna use two cups ofself-rising flourthere’s oneantek then we’re going to use you needabout 1/4 cup of shortening butterwhatever so we’re going to use a littlebit of butter and a little bit ofshortening and we’re going to use ourblending fork and we’re going to blendthis together so what we’re doing rightnow is creating a biscuit mix ok if youmake my biscuit mix ahead of time youcan use your large KitchenAid mixerthat’s really easy and you can make alot or you can just mix it up fromscratch and of course another option isto use the biscuit mix that I love mostand that southern biscuit mix formulaand I guess they can see me smashingthat in on the sides so you’re justcutting in your shortening you’re goingto want it to be about pea-sized I justmean it might be better from the otherside are you sure that’s rightokay so now what you’re going to go bythis recipe we’re going to add what itsays to add okay it says that’s three itsays to add for pancakes two cups of mixwhich we’ve got a teaspoon of vanillaand egg a cup of milk so let me get acup of milkI actually put a little bit too much anarea for all off okay is it okay alrightChris says it’s okayan eID but this is a jumbo egg okay letme pour a little offyou get too runny I got a jump upwaiting today and then sugar let me wipemy hands off two tablespoons of sugarwe’re going to go ahead and throw in thevanilla as wellone two tablespoons of sugar yeah everytime I think I got everything else goingon but then you can see how mama reallytoo bright instead of pretending likeyou run a show all rightthere we go that’s pretty much it yet soit says two cups of mix a spoon ofvanilla and egg a cup of milk and twotablespoons of sugar we got it alltogether we’re just gonna mix it uptogether[Music]now normally Chris would make pancakesevery morning in a batter bowl he makespancakes every Sunday morning okaythat’s what he does on Sunday he lovespancakesso he got up this morning and he’s likelook we’ve got sausage left in therefrom that party let’s make some pancakesI said let’s do it why do I need alittle more even though you’re Chris isthat wet enough you think I didn’t pouroff a little bit too much milk yeah aport when I when I poured my milk offwater I poured out just a little bit toomuch so you want it to be nice and moisthere let me get my spoon use my handperfect okay when you make pancakes youwant them to be able to medium heat youdo not want it to be on a high heat wetypically use or Kris typically usesthis scooper just a standard scooperthat comes with a set of silverwareyou know like stainless steel whateverif so no needa I guess that’s how yousay that and so I’m not really sure howmuch it holds I guess we could measurewhile we’re waiting hold thiswaitin on this I would think a quartercup so we’ll just see and that way yougot a quarter cup measuring spoon youcan use that much to make pancake yepit’s a quarter cup scoop that’s what itis so you know I’m making a mess but I’mshowing out something at the same timeso it don’t matter okay what do you liketo use this skillet to my pancakes inyou can tell it’s black all around theedges we hardly this is the main reasonwe use the skillet is for pancakes thisis a skillet that has the stone ceramiccoating and it is there’s a set of thison our website and they’re also a coupleof singles on the left side under ourtab cookware so if you’re interested ingetting one of these that’s where youget it they weren’t really good it’sheld up good it’s not beautiful onceyou’ve used it for a while that itreally cooks well okay and we are intocooking more than Beauty here at theNichols house and I’m sure I could usemy bar keeper’s friend and I have but itdon’t clean up like stainless steelhoods all of us go ahead which we don’tcater alright here we goI think how do you test this if it’shard enough mr. Nicholsthat is wait till I thank your timethere are usually more good a littlemedium because that’s a that’s a big guyokay so you need to use a medium heatnot a high heat you don’t want itopinion takes to get on brown okay youwant to be golden and if you make themlike this they’re gonna fluff up solet’s put in a pen kay it’s the firstone does the first one work or does itgo yeah okaylots of times for some reason let’s killitwhen you put your first pink apne Idon’t know what I’m talking about itturns off flat and ugly and then thesecond one looks great so we’re gonnasee what happens y’all and we just gottahedge it mama butter rich pancake syrupwe’re gonna put a little butter on themlittle sausage on the plate excuse memr. Nichols move around for a minutecome on our plate wait like two pieceswith our pancakes just perfect you wantit to bubble and you want it to bubbleall the way across not just somethingoutside and it starting to bubble whatyou think Chris yes you’re the pink cakeman usually the first one I’ll wait alittle while longer okay but see howit’s rising up y’all you see how prettythat ispancake mix does not make a prettypancake like that and it doesn’t tastenear as good this is the sausage that welove swagerty’s okay we’re gonna flipthis suckerlook at that it’s perfect so your hateOh medium it shouldn’t burn it even ifyou leave it in there a little bitlonger it should not burn okay and getto bring if your temperature is right soyou just play with your temperature athome and you’re going to be able to seehow this works show them how it’slifting right thereit’s Chris if I can see that you’ll seehow it’s rising right there doing reallywell first pink okay but we’re gonnamake at least two we all we all leave topancakes that’s what we eat this is alittle bit thick in my opinion is it toyou Chris what’s another thing you knowwhen they make waffles and stuffthe batter’s really see it so that itworks better in the waffle it seems toothick because I’ll make it really thinyeah Chris makes it’s really saying it’sfine there’s no I like it like this Idon’t like for it to be it’s the thingin that I just like for it to be thickerand if you go by the recipe and thevolume too could look at work perfectokay so and you’ll be so pleased thatyou made a homemade pound cake appealpancake this morning no I’ve even had mycup of coffeehere it is Chris said Chris said is yourhair okayand I said Chris cuz I do get on to himsometimes when we’re filming like a realfilm and my hair sticking out and I’mlike Chris might you tell me my hairsticking out he said this your hair okaythis morning I said I don’t care it’smorning I’m barefooted I got my pajamason and so it’s morning y’allgood morning it’s not great okay it’snot ready cuz it’s not bubble in themiddle yet and we are going to head backdown to st. Mary’s tomorrow with ourkids they have never seen the house thatwe bought so we will be travelingtomorrow and traveling back over theweekend y’all keep us in your prayersand thoughts oh I may post a couple ofreruns all right now it’s ready you cantell it’s starting to kind of bubblyacross the middle look it’s too Brownnot to meChris likes I’m like that I don’t Idon’t like my Brown at all in thethinner they are the faster they youknow they’ll cook faster they’re bubbleup faster right these are a little bitslowthey’re thicker but they are good theytaste really goodoh yeah so anyway yeah how keep us inyour prayers this week while we’re downin sight Mary’s let the girls see thehouse for the first time somebody askedthere’s a recipe for a syrup you know inthe cookbook we don’t have a recipe forsurfing they couldn’t me and Chris likejust plain old butter flavored syrupI mean that’s just how we are that wastoo Brown I don’t want it for my man yesI like it here we can do one moreI don’t turn this sucker down on theside just a little bit water no wholemilk if it gets too thick I’ll clean itup a little bit ma’am it’s more like apancake batter see it was just too thickand then if I if I lift it like thateverybody on the video come on yourbatters cake now like I won’t be able tosay that to me cuz I fixed it now let’smake a real pancake like this thing outfor it starts smoking here I’ll do itChris always worries about stuff whilehis video and he can just tell me andI’ll fixed it all right so we just madea homemade pink cake it has two cups offlour self-rising 1/4 cup of half reallyit’s 1/8 cup of room temperature butter1/8 cup of shortening umm vanillaflavoring 2 tablespoons of sugar 1 cupof milk and 1 egglook how now that’s the way you want apancake to look see how it’s bubblingacross the top it needs to be thinenough you can at least see the bubblesperfect that’s more like it y’all shejust wants the pancake to take a goodpictureno I walking like this I do not eat thedark ones do you know what I do lots ofmornings because I’m not as big of apancake fan as Chris I take my pink cakeI’ll show it to you with this I take mypancake coz all it is is a fried biscuitreally it is and I squirt mustard a lotright here and then I take my sausageand I have it not to put a half here anda half here and I fold it up and I eatit like a sausage biscuit I do that lotsand drink it with mine and have coffeewith it is so good so if you want tomake extra batter and you want a goodbreakfast look that’s perfect and youwant to get breakfast you can do thatyou can just make extra batter and getup and make the pancake and eat it likea biscuit with some sausage or bacondon’t just have to have the syrup on itlots of times it’s did a syrup I alsoeat I sprinkle mine with powdered sugarand cinnamon and nutmeg and don’t evenput syrup on mine I’m not as big I’mjust into the syrup as Chris is butwe’re gonna course Pitts syrup on thisone in love you put a little extrabutter on my ear so it can be meltingfor the photo Oh y’all look at they theylook good or what homemade pancakes turnit around for y’all so you can see howit rose here we go with the syrup comeon power a little bit mr.
