hello my name is Riley Chung and I am agrade 10 student at Clarkson secondaryschool this is my how-to video for mycommunications tech class in this videoI will be showing you how to make theFrench cookies along the shot otherwiseknown as cat tongue for their cat tonguelike appearance so the differentingredientsyou will need to make your cookies arehalf a cup all-purpose flour 1/2 a cupof sugar quarter teaspoon of salt oneteaspoon of vanilla extract quarter cupof unsalted softened butter and 1 egg sothe things you will need to make thesecookies are I went I have differentsizes here a cooking spoon two differentsized bowls one should be bigger thanthe other just so you can mix everythingtogether easily as well as an electrichand mixer um another thing you willneed is a piping bag pastry bag but Idon’t have that so I’m using a plasticbag but it works all the same so it’sall goodthere are all of my ingredientsseparated and measured I recommend doingthis before you start cooking to saveyourself time and this is everything thesugar salt vanilla extract all-purposeflour butter and the egg I put this inthe microwave for a bit because it wasin the fridge so it isn’t it’s softeneda bit so it’s easier to work with andthe egg I recommendputting it into a separate dish beforeyou put it into the mixture because thisway it’s easy to get out all of theeggshells if they’re not so happened tobe any of the fall in the first thingyou want to do is pre-heat your oven to350 degrees Fahrenheit or 180 degreesCelsius so I’m going to do that rightnowand that’s appreciating okay so with theoven preheating I’m sure that I want todo let’s get a baking sheet and it’s aparchment paper and this is reallystraightforward all you’re going to wantto do is line your baking with someparchment paperso this should work fine it doesn’t haveto be perfect as long as the sheet islined with parchment paper okay so afteryou have your baking sheet lined withparchment paper you can go ahead sohere’s my smaller bowl and what you wantto do is you want to combine the flourand the salt so go ahead and do that andyou can just use regular you knowcooking spoon and you work that all inthereit’s hard to see on camera so there wego that’s everything in the smaller bowlremember to do this in the smaller bowldoing the other stuff in the bigger oneso after you’ve combined the flour andthe salt you can go ahead and set thataside and take your bigger bowl takeyour bigger bowl and what you would wantto do is you want to cream the butterand sugar until it’s fluffy so what I’mgonna do is I’m going to you not indisorder[Music]so I’m gonna take a whisk and I’m justgonna go at it and I’ll see you backwhen it’s done okay so we’re back andthis is the butter and the sugar creamedand white and fluffy and this is aboutwhat it should look like just kind oflittle clouds and when you don’t see anymore kind of sugar specs left in yourbowl so after that what you’re gonnawant to do is you’re going to want toadd the egg and the vanilla and I’mgonna beat that for two minutes and I’llsee you back when that’s done okay soafter you’re finished about beating thatit should have the consistency reallyugly-looking scrambled eggs let me seeif I can get that it kind of like thatunless I didn’t do it right but I thinkI did so after that speed what you’regonna want to do is you’re going to stirin the dry ingredients from earlier sothis in this salt and the flour so whatI’m gonna do is I’m just gonna put thatin and this is one our electric mixercomes in I’m gonna take that and we’rejust gonna see how that goes combine ittogether and you don’t want to overdo itand this is about itokay so this is what your batter ordough should look like after it goesthrough with the electric mixer knowwhat you’re gonna want to do is takeyour plastic bag or your pastry bag andall you want to do is you want to fitthis with your dope so a good tip wouldbe to take the outside and push itthrough the hole and that’s kind of likea glove and you kind of just pick it uppick up what you can right okay takeeverything I can through here I’m gonnakind of encapsulate it into the bag andnow most of it is in the baglook at that I’m just gonna take it takethen what I’m going to do I’m going totake my spoontake my spoon open this up so it’s kindof laying open I’m just gonna scrape offthe excessI’m gonna plop this into here andsqueeze it off that should be good therewe are okay so after you have yourpastries in your your dough in yourpastry bagor in my case plastic bag what you wantto do is you want to push this to onecorner of the bag so I’m just gonna youdon’t even have to push it to one cornerjust get over away from a singularcorner kind of like this just kind oflike that so leaves left corner openwant to take some scissors you just kindof want to cut the tip of this corneroff not too big not too small just likethat so now it’s like a an icing bagokay so after you have your hole cutinto your plastic bag you want to pullout your baking sheet again and you’rejust gonna take your bag and you’regonna make long cylinder like shapes soI’m gonna start in this corner so youjust want to go squeeze it out and likethat that should be perfect and there’sone and it’ll flatten out and look morelike cat tongues later and I’ll finishthe rest in come back to you so into theoven now and you put this in for four tosix minutes or until the edges aregolden brown so I’m just gonna set itfor five minutes no cut back to you guysokay so after the after the cookies aredone you can pull him out Ithey weren’t totally done for fiveminutes so I’ve been putting them in fortwo and one minute intervals and this isthe upper ignore these these are prettysmall but these because they all tossedup togetherit took a bit longer but what you can doto just get that kind of look to them ifyou so desire you can take a knife andjust cut out the shapes and so after I’mfinished to this I’m gonna put the moatonto a cooling rack and I’ll show youwhat that looks likeokay these are the cookies on thecooling rack and they should be good togo after you let them cool down for abit um and um yeah thank you forwatching and I hope if you try this theyturn out good take care
