GINGERBREAD MAN COOKIES I HOW TO MAKE DECORATED GINGERBREAD MEN (RECIPE)



It’s finally the Holiday season and what says holiday more than gingerbread men?! These adorable gingerbread man cookies are not only adorable but they are absolutely delicious. You can bake them to your liking, I prefer them soft and chewy but you may like them more like a traditional ginger snap. You do you boo boo. RECIPE:

Cookies:
1 C Butter
1 C Sugar
1 Egg
1 C Molasses
2 Tbsp White Vinegar
5 C Flour
.5 tsp Salt
1.5 tsp Baking Soda
2 tsp Ginger
1 tsp Cinnamon
1 tsp Clove

Royal Icing:
10 Tbsp Meringue Powder
2 lbs Powdered Sugar
3/4 C Water

I don’t keep saying cookie like thatcookie question mark hey what’s up youguys and welcome back to my kitchen I’mso glad you decided to join me today ifyou’re new here welcome we’re so happyyou decided to join us in today’sepisode we’re making a classicgingerbread man this recipe is awesomebecause it’s super versatile you caneither make these cookies thin and crispif you want you can make them thick andchewy you can decorate them any way youwant to by yourself with your kids withyour grandkids with your nieces andnephews whoever you want to decoratethem with it’ll be so fun for around theholidays these cookies are so yummy allright guys let’s get started make thecookie part of this recipe is prettyeasy we’re just going to need somebutter an egg some molasses some whitevinegar our spices this is cinnamonginger and cloves our baking soda somesalt some sugar and some flour firstthing we’re gonna do is add our butterinto our Bowl we’re just going to startcreaming that as usualI’m gonna scrape down the sides my bowlreally quickly I’m gonna put the mixerback on now and we’re gonna slowly startadding our sugar we’re gonna beat thatit’s nice and fluffy about five minutesour white vinegar and our egg so I’mgoing to start by adding the molassesand we’ll just mix after each additionnow we’ll add our vinegar and lastlywe’ll add our egg don’t worry if yourdough starts to look a little bit brokenthat’s just the acidity of the vinegarit’s all gonna come together once we addour dry ingredients the egg hasincorporated into that batter we’re justgonna push that aside and we’re gonnawork on our dry ingredients what we’regonna do is just combine our dryingredients and then we’re gonna addthem to the bowl so we’re just going totake our flour add in our spices oursalt and our baking soda and then we’lljust take a whisk and we’ll just combinethese I’m just gonna give them one quickwhisk here all that dry ingredients inthereand end up with an RKO starts to moveaway from the sides of our bowl we’realmost donehowever this dough can be a little bitsticky when you first incorporate it soI like to add an extra tablespoon or twoof flour I would just add one at a timemix that up and then see how that looksto you you want it to not stick to yourfingers once we’ve got our dough all setnow comes the easy part we’re gonna takesome saran wrap what we’re going to dois we’re gonna break this dough in halfbest we can don’t worry about it toomuch we’re gonna pop these into thefridge for a minimum of 30 minutes and amaximum of two days so you can make thisdough ahead of time and then roll themout and cut them later in about an hourso I decided to take out this dough andwe’re gonna start working with itso I went take out one half at a time sothe other half can stay chill you mustchillyou must chill before I take it off theplastic wrap I’m going to flour mysurfacegot our deal enough for a little bit offlour over the top of that dough so I’mgonna roll this to about a half an inchfor soft chewy cookies which is what Iprefer if you like a crisper cookie youcould roll this out to 1/4 inch and thenyou’ll bake it for a minute extra or twobut we’re gonna roll it out to about ahalf an inch and then I’ve got threedifferent size gingerbread cutters hereso I’m going to take my largestgingerbread man just press it down intothe dough and have a prepared pan hereit’s just got a Silpat mat on it you canalso use parchment paper so I’m justgoing to pop him out and then one trickthat I like to use is to take a pastrybrush and just brush off some of thatextra flour and again they are verythick so don’t be concerned if yours arereally thick[Music]okay so once we’ve got these on the panwe’re gonna pop them into a 350 degreeoven for about 12 to 13 minutes theywill pop up slightly and then as theycool they’ll settle back down and youwant to make sure you have a little bitof room for them to grow because theythey don’t expand but they do kind ofpuff up and they’ll run into each otherso 350 degrees for 12 to 13 minutes andthe final step of this gingerbreadprocess is to decorate our cookies so Iwanted to show you two different ways todo this one would be the traditionalpiping way to do a gingerbread man theother way to do it would be to justsimply frost the cookie and then addsome edible glitter or some sprinkles orwhatever makes your heart happy also Iwanted to say don’t worry if your cookieis a little bit crackly if you ever lookat a gingersnap they’re crackly that’swhat happens with gingerbread I made upsome royal icing while I was waiting forthe cookies to cool I’m not gonna showit in this video just for the sake oftime but I will leave directly downbelow so that you guys can make it aswell so I’m just mixing it just slightlyjust to break up any air bubbles and I’mgonna use a little mini spatula I’m justgonna lop some on there and then I’mjust brushing outwards towards the edgeof the star hereand then before the icing dries we’regoing to just add these our littlesparkling gold sprinkles and we’ll justthrow them on there this starso now we’re going to move on to doing amore of a piping technique and made up abunch of colors here and I just put theminto piping bags and we’re just going toplay around with these so I decided todo one of each size so the first thingI’m going to do is I’ll just add someeyes and add a little smile here now iswhen we can have fun with ourgingerbread we could very easily justput some gumdrop buttons here so I hadan idea that I’ll add a bowtie to tellme the attitude this guy because he’llbe a little bit more visiblethere’s some fun buttons so I’m gonnause this purple with this rosette littlerosettes have in it[Music]okay so I went a little bit crazy ondecorating them after I showed you guysthe simple way to decorate them but Ihad a lot of fun doing it and I alsofound a couple of different sprinklesthat I had just in my cabinet so theyadded into them so seriously just makethem your own but I think it’s time thatyou try one so I’m gonna try it one ofthe star ones just because these otherones it’s too cute but we’re all asingle setup as it sits out and eat themstop it’s just so much more you knowwe’ll say it that wayI just prefer them soft but look I’llshow you guys how soft these are againyou can totally make them crispy ifthat’s the way that you like them I
