Breads #1: How to make French bread baguettes

Hi friends! Today I am making beefaroni for dinner so I am going to make some baguettes to go with it and I thought I would show you how to make them. The recipe below is for a single loaf and I am doubling it for 2 loaves. I’ve made adjustments for my oven as well. The recipe calls for the dough to be mixed in a bread machine, but a mixer can be used or you can mix and knead by hand.

French Baguettes

Ingredients
• 1 cup water
• 2 1/2 cups bread flour
• 1 tablespoon white sugar
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 1/2 teaspoons bread machine yeast
• 1 egg yolk
• 1 tablespoon water
Directions
1. Place 1 cup water, bread flour, sugar, salt and yeast into bread machine pan in the order recommended by manufacturer. Select Dough cycle, and press Start.
2. When the cycle has completed, place dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat all sides. Cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until doubled in bulk. Dough is ready if indentation remains when touched.
3. Punch down dough. On a lightly floured surface, roll into a 16×12 inch rectangle. Cut dough in half, creating two 8×12 inch rectangles. Roll up each half of dough tightly, beginning at 12 inch side, pounding out any air bubbles as you go. Roll gently back and forth to taper end. Place 3 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. Make deep diagonal slashes across loaves every 2 inches, or make one lengthwise slash on each loaf. Cover, and let rise in a warm place for 30 to 40 minutes, or until doubled in bulk.
4. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Mix egg yolk with 1 tablespoon water; brush over tops of loaves.
5. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown.

hi friends today I’m going to make some
French bread I’m making beef or any
casserole for dinner so I want to have
some French bread so I can make some
garlic bread so this recipe is called
French baguettes and I got it off all
recipes and I will put the link to it in
the comment sector the message section
below and I’ve been using this recipe
for about 15 years
so it’s one of our family favorites so
and I’m also doubling the recipe to make
two loaves instead of one so if you go
and get the recipe from all recipes it’s
for a single loaf I’m making two lobes
alright so let’s get started first I’ve
got two cups of warm water
and then I’m gonna add this is one and a
half teaspoons of bread machine yeast so
I’m gonna use a tablespoon
calls for one tablespoon of white sugar
so I’m going to use two
and then one teaspoon of salt so I’m
going to use two
okay this one doesn’t call for any oil
so we don’t eat that and then the recipe
calls for two and a half cups of bread
flour so I’m going to need five mmm I
had bought a bunch like five five-pound
bags of bread flour at Walmart it was
the Pillsbury’s best brand and then
found out that there was a recall on it
for e.coli be polite and flour so I have
to clean out my I have to toss out all
the flour in my big 22 quart container
and then wash it out real good three
for I have just enough
five and then I’ll just stick to getting
my flower from Amish Mennonite store
okay
we’re going to mix this up for about ten
minutes eight to ten minutes until it’s
a nice smooth and elastic and I’ll be
back when it’s done

little sticky I mean it is kind of damp
today but let’s check it out
yeah it’s not exactly smooth yet so
we’ll let it mix for a few more minutes
it’s getting there though
okay spent a few more minutes to let it

yeah it’s much better now
okay so what I’m gonna do put a little
bit of grease in my bowl here roll it
around in it
first much as I bake I hate the feeling
of dough on my fingers and I usually
have to get it off pretty quick okay so
we got a hard dough greased up cover it
with a piece of plastic wrap
maybe
and we are going to let this rise until
double in size since it’s a warm day
it’ll probably not take too long the
instructions say half an hour and it
could very well just be a half an hour
but I usually let it go from 30 minutes
to an hour so I will be back when it’s
risen and then we’ll shape it and go
from there

them let them rise for another half an
hour so
okay I’m back it’s time to put the bread

to 350 and these will bake for 30 30

it’s about nine more minutes take a peek
at it oh look at that
so I will come back when the bread is

it very well so it didn’t make eat
but that’s all right we’re just gonna
rip it apart meet it so
I’m not too worried about it not being
perfectly beautiful for it it’s
perfectly delicious so
